Has anyone seen a Teraph used well? Not with Vayl, I like to run Vayl 100% offense. On the PP boards they just get poo-pooed.
I was attracted to everblight because of their ranged attacks. I just loved the fact that the glass cannon army was also the shooting army. This was toned down a bit in Evolution where they became the assassination army.
I like to use it with Thagrosh. Basically I just use it when I get bored of using Shredders. Instead of a Carni, Seraph and 3/4 Shredders I take a Carni, Seraph and Teraph. I don't really need tenacity and the Teraph has ranged attack.
So say ...
Thagrosh
Carnivean
Seraph
Teraph
Scather Crew
Striders
Faralgeist (Carni or Teraph)
Swamp Gobbers
The general problem seems to be that you pay for Dig In and it's necessarily something you always use. I consider it to be mostly a melee beast but it's nice if you can get a couple shots off with the AOE too.

From what little I know about Everblight and Hordes, the teraph seems more of a "wait" warbeast. The others seem more agressive. Maybe that's why you dont see them played alot. Model looks great though.

Teraph suffers from being almost the same points as a seraph or nephilim, both of which are generally better and have a better animus. The Teraph isn't bad, but it's not great either.

the Teraphs problem is not the Teraph but rather the other options you could take in its place.
for 4 to 6 points more you can get a Seraph, with wings, a better range attack ( strafe), and the same tail attack with the same crit, and a much better animus.
for 4 to 8 points more you can get a Nephilim, same movement, better armor, better attack, animus that makes it much better in Melee, and more Fury.
On the oposite end of the line.
for the points you spend on a Teraph you could get 3.5 Shreaders, this provides on average 7 boosted to hit /dmg attacks a turn , compared to the 2 the Teraph offers, The animus on the the shreaders is also useful, and they are more targets.
you can get 2 shreaders and a harrier for about the same cost as a Teraph, once agian your talking more attacks, some auto hitting, and the harrier animus is almost a must for Thargosh ( your going to spend one focus to boost to hit anyway, might as well spend it to auto hit).
Basicly If the Teraph was in any other army but Legion it would be great, I legion though its place is already filled by more point effective options.

yeah it really is trumped by the Seraph, I only use the Seraph at range (boring), I overlooked the fact the Seraph is nearly as good in melee as the Teraph.
The Seraph is also: large base, +1 DEF (which then stacks with Tenacity), and as mentioned, of course it gives you another Slipstream.
Unless I'm mistaken, the Seraph even has an extra health box.
Tactically, the Teraph might be preferred because you can use it as an in your face tank, but there's no reason why you can't use a Seraph in the same role.

iirc, the Teraph has 2 melee attacks. And Stealth will neutralize the Seraph's shooting, with a favorable scatter, it has a negligible impact on the Teraph.
If you want to field a Teraph, field one, don't listen to all the theorymachine on the 'net. OTH, if you don't have one, you may want to think twice before buying one.
You could get some mileage out of CounterBlast with Thags and his spray template.

Stealth does nothing to the Teraph's or Seraph's shooting. Eyeless Sight trumps it.
With the Teraph, I'd advance up the center. Run first turn to get into posistion. Second turn, advance, Dig In, then use Counterblast. That way, you get to attack first no matter what, and you have excellent defense against shooting.
One other thing to note is that the Teraph is one of only two Legion warbeasts that can perform arm/headlocks (the other being the also maligned Raek). That option can be useful in and of itself.

mmmm.... I'm in love with the Raek, it's never let me down. I do want to try the Teraph in a defensive/shooty Legion.

Haha don;t get me started about eyeless sight, watching a unit of bane thralls (bait) bit it to a carnivean that charge though 6 inchs of woods into spray range was not one of my finer moment. The stupid thing was completely on the other side of the woods, but between all terrain and eyeless sight it charges though woods over rough terrain to shoot a steathed unit from more than 5 inches away.
