List 1:

Doomy
Dire Troll Mauler
Dire Troll Blitzer
Troll Axer
Troll Impaler
Keilstone Bearer (min)
Fell Caller

I love Doomy's model, and he's my favorite Warcaster in Primal. I sorta thought I'd build the list around him. Seems like the DTB with Far Strike could run around up front for a while before I switch to Rage or Rush. I always like Impalers, and some time I'd like to make a list based on three or more of them, but that's a tangent. The Mauler and the Axer compliment eachother, and The KSB and Fell Caller are just awesome toolboxes.

List 2:

Grissel
Troll Axer
Pyre Troll
Champs
Champs
Keistone Bearer (+1 Scribe)
Fell Caller

I'm much less sure of this list. Not that I'm sure at all about List 1, but I have no experience at all with troops. I could afford to lose one Champs squad for two Kriel Warrior squads. I know a 'brick' works best with Madrak, but Grissel seems great with troopers too. Also, I really like the Scattergunners and would love to see them fit into either of these lists. Any advice at all with the construction of the lists or help with playing them, cause I'm still sorta teaching myself the rules. Thanks a bunch!

Hmm. I don't know any of the points costs, and I'm not a troll player, but I'll offer my two cents.

I think the first list is a little too beast heavy. You'll likely find yourself dealing with Frenzy fairly often. Also, it lacks anti-infantry punch. I would drop the Impaler and pick up Scatter Gunners. Casting Fortune on them will make them nasty. The Fell Caller makes them really nasty. Just don't lead with them as they aren't that durable.

Grissel doesn't need a lot of Fury in the beginning of the game since she only has 2 spells, and they're both offensive and short-ranged. However, should you lose one of your beasts, she will starve for Fury. My solution would be to swap the Axer for an Impaler, and use the Champions as the spearhead. Keep the ranged beasts behind the the Champs and keep shooting. Only charge weak or isolated targets. By the way, Far Strike is great on the Pyre Troll.

The Champs have your melee offense covered. Make sure you read and understand their Concert rule. And cast Flaming Fists on the last Champion attacking a given target.

Remember that a unit may only be affected by one Fell Call each turn. So no stacking Reveille with Hoof It or what have you.

Finally, I'd say the first list is the way to go. Both of these lists are solid, but using the models you like makes for more enjoyable games. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Doomshaper and Scatter Gunners practically go hand in hand.

Thanks for the reply! The first list is so beast heavy 'cause with Doomy, both the Mauler and the Blitzer can frenzy and they won't attack friendly models. The Impaler really is only there to give the Blitzer extra range to run around and gun things down, but that's probably not worth all the bother... I did the math, and it comes out to 501 if I switch out the Impaler for Scattergunners. *sigh* It looks like I'd either have to remove the Blitzer (as it isn't considered all that hot anyway) or pick either the KSB or the Fell Caller. I'm not sure witch of those two (KSB/FC) compliments the list better...

I'm definitely going to work towards the Doomy list, but I was just trying to glean any info about running a Grissel list too, as she's also pretty cool. Thanks again for the help.

The problem with the first list is that everyone will ignore the beasts and go for the crunchy warlock at the center (Doomshaper). With only the KSB to screen, he's easy to whack. Doomshaper needs a mix of troops and beasts. And while he can modify the normal frenzy rules, you still may not want your beasts to frenzy that much. I'd drop the Blitzer and get Champs. Champs should be in every list. Maybe all the swamp gobbers too.

I'd look to work an Impaler into the second list, either drop the Axer or a unit of champs. Kriel warriors are cheap, but that doesn't mean two units equal one unit of champs. KW are a speed bump in the army that can occassionally pull of a spectacular move, but Champs are the reliable killing engines all TB love and non-TBs loathe.
