Hi, would you please vote in my poll if you are a Warhammer player?
Assume that the model is sculpted in the style of GW models but is made by another manufacturer. How likely are you to use it for Warhammer gaming?
Here's the link to the poll:

Thank you!

Many of the GW models are nice.
Some of them are utter pants- bat swarms spring to mind.

If I like the model (and if I own it, it's because I like it) and it fits in with the rest of the army, I would absolutely use it. GW does a lot of nice stuff, but there is a lot of nice stuff out there from other companies too, and it would be a shame to not use their miniatures if they are available. We're all in the same boat, after all.

These days I'm more likely to use GW minis for non-GW games, but that's another story.
Good figs are good figs, and I'll use 'em regardless.

I'm quite likely to use non-GW in fantasy, more so than I would for 40k. I like to toss PP models in as a character or monster, dig the models and the price is competitive, and the larger scale works fine for heroes or big critters.

I use GW models for D&D.
It's hard to find nonGW models that look right in a GW army.

I actualy was using a whole army of Noris figures for an ogre army for a bit. They were too large for naormal man sized units but were about right for ogres.

I think many characters are crying to be picked up via Reaper Miniatures. They have such a huge collection of cheap and nice vampires, mages, and fighty lords that I don't see why anyone should pay $20 for a pair of so-so mages, or an expensive character box.
I've seen talks of using the Wolfen of Yllia as counts as ogre kingdoms... Would look fantastic and interest me more than GW's version. Imagine a werewolf army - sweet... The price scared us away.

I hate the GW Yeti's. In consideration for an OK army I would not use the GW models for sure, especially with the Wargods of Hypoborea Wendigo looking as nice as they do.

Although I dont actually play WHFB I would most likely use mainly GW models although other companies do provide mini's that would make great character models. the main advantage of fantasy over 40k is that not every second fantasy release is Marines

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

After starting Vampire Counts I went straight for Reaper Rackham, and PP for my vampires. The biggest flaw in the range has always been a lack of good vampires, I think. I bought all the current Vampire models (all 2 of them that aren't special characters...) and a few of the old ones (Blood Dragons mostly). Then I bought about 20 other non-GW minis to serve as my real Vampires.
Usually I lean toward using GW official stuff, as long as I like the model. If I don't like what they offer for a certain role I start shopping around. So far the only things I've had to do this with were Black Knights, Vampires, Wight Kings, and Treemen.
I have started to consider some Privateer Press minis for my Inquisitor and Retinue, though. An Inquisitor deserves to be unique...

I won't use non-GW minis mixed in because GW really is a world unto itself. The proportions would look kinda wierd relative.
Of course, a lot of GW stuff doesn't match my vision, either, so I end up doing a moderate amount of conversion as well.
But my Fantasy stuff is on hold at the moment, so this isn't a major concern of mine.

I use them as I find them really. But yeah I tend to have GW only models. I don't find many mini's around my area that are from other games that would work in warhammer and I don't generally order anything online as I like to support my local hobby store. But if the mini looks good I have no issues using it.

I have no quarrels using non- gw minis.
I got it a bit lucky with my current/previous army (chaos) as most of the figs gw had for them were pretty nice in my opinion, so I didn't have to search through alternatives. Not so with my next army, vampire counts. I dislike pretty much everything in the current range except the nice new skeles/gg and few of the characters look allright. That means I'll have to look around for replacement figs, altough I think I'll get most of the models done by mixing other plastic kits from gw to undead bits, such as getting the black knights done with bretonnian and grave guard bits. On the subject matter I'll most likely get some vampire reinforcements from Reaper and some Heresy ghouls.

Thanks for the feedback, folks (and sorry for the delay in response). Your answers convinced me to make my first WH type fantasy model. Mums the word for now on what it will be, but let's just say that it's an Avatars of War style champion model, and it fills a hole in the Avatars of War hero range.
Is being cast now, should be available in a month or so.

I voted if it isn't available from GW, but I wish you had asked "for conversion work." I love to borrow weapons and the odd hand etc to add to my models.
