Ok, let me know what you think, what can I do to make the list better before I start my credit card to smokin.

It's a good start. I'll go over it in detail in a little while.

Suffice to say it though, 4 squads won't cut it at 2000 points. You're going to need 5 or six squads.

Anyway, as I said, I'll do what I can do a bit later.

double H.B.M.C's sentiments

drop some chimeras, the rough riders (for sure) and some unneeded upgrades on squads to put extra armor on the vehicles, and then buy some more men

Ive been thinking of doing a mech guard army myself. I just have so much other stuff to paint the thought of 7 chimeras is just/...BLAH. I have never played a guard army before. Although I played AGAINST one before and I wiped the guy horribly.

I'm using the Mechanised doctrine, so I CANT drop chimera, everything but the rough riders HAVE to be mounted in chimera.

Yea, what? Kinda invalidates the huge amount of IG advice you give on these forums smart_alex.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

1. Drop the upgrades on the command squads. You wont get to shoot, just die. Exposed command sqjuads with las/doubler plas are an irresistable target. If you want any weapons take a meltagun.

2. Give the company HQ a banner, give the officer honorifica.

3. You need a Demolisher, with lascannon and plasma cannon if you can afford it.

4. You might be better off with one ery big platoon and an Armoured fist. You dont really need three H.Q. this could provide the saving you need (as well as dropping HQ weapons) for the extra squads.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It doesn't take a huge leap in deductive reasoning to figure he meant mechanised guard only.

108 points on Stubbers???

Get yourself two 55 point units of Rough Riders my friend. Hell, spend the change on Vet Sergeants for the RR units if you can.

IG should never really worry about termies as you should have a decent number of plasma in every guard list, plus either RR's, demolishers, or lascannons. what IG need to worry about are hoard armies that outnumber them and have MC's, but even then not so much. good IG lists should be able to handle any opponent

I run a list very similar to this and have had a fair amount of success with it. My list does have some noteworthy differences though.

1) Demolishers- the strength 10 is nice but really the main advantage is having AP 2 pie plates. It's nice to have against deep striking terminators and even if there aren't deep striking terminators it's still Str. 10 Ordinance, you can always find a use for it. I usually run a mix of regular Leman Russes and Demolishers.

2)No heavy stubbers (on anything), they're just too many points for what they do. You're better off just buying more melta guns, plasma guns or rough riders as others have suggested.

3)I also like throwing some meltaguns into my command squads for my platoons. It's nice being able to drop them off somewhere and pretty much guarantee a kill on some particularly hard target.

Another thing that I have been messing with lately is Sentinels. I haven't decided for sure whether I like them or not but so far I have been finding their scout move and ability to set up on the board in every mission to be very useful. I'm impressed so far but I'll need some more testing to tell for sure.

Stubbers drop, waste of points and with 5th ed coming up bigger waste if the rules pans out.

Next step would be to change out the hull heavy bolter on the chims to hull heavy flamers if you can. This will have a big impact on how hordes rush you. Nice little deterent with six plus heavy flamers on an ork mob.. WAHHH THIS /heavy flamer.....

Maybe get a melta bomb on your HQ, jo and such.

other than that it looks good.

Ok, after another bout with pen and paper, this is what I've come up with.

HQ] J. Officer: bolter (ID)

TRP] J. Officer: bolter (ID)

TRP] J. Officer: bolter (ID)
Staff: plasma X2, lazgun X2
Chimera: Multi-laz, Hv-bolter, light
Squad 3: Lazcannon, plasma, lazgun X8
Chimera: Multi-laz, Hv-bolter, light
Squad 4: Lazcannon, plasma, lazgun X8
Chimera: Multi-laz, Hv-bolter, light

TRP] AF. Squad: Lazcannon, plasma, lazgun X8
Chimera: Multi-laz, Hv-bolter, light

FST] R. Riders: lp/hl X5
Vet. Sarge: bp/hl

FST] Hellhound: Inferno Cannon, Hv-bolter, light

HV] Leman Russ: Battle Cannon, Hv-bolter, light

HV] Leman Russ: Battle Cannon, Hv-bolter, light

HV] Leman Russ: Battle Cannon, Hv-bolter, light

I dropped the Hv-stubbers and one of the armored fist squads and added a unit of rough riders for some counter charge. I added some plasma to the command sections to give them something to shoot at whatever big nastys make it to my lines and a Hellhound for BBQing hoards.

Any better?

5 Lascannons are 2000? Hmm...

And you don't need the Hellhound, with 3 Russes and that many Chimeras the Hellhound adds nothing to your army.

More squads, however, do add something to your army. They add Lascannons.

The problem with the Hellhound is that while, yes, it does its job well and for reasonable points the rest ofyour army that you're already taking anyways also does its job well. You really need a bit more anti tank. I try to give all of my basic squads in Chimeras lascannons and any command squads that aren't going to be meltagun suicide squads or hiding behind terrain to give leadership lascannons as well.

I have Drop Troops on the multi-melta Sentinels to drop in and destroy enemy tanks and other hard targets, and if they have to walk, I have the 3 russes and 8 chimera to hopefully draw fire away from them.

I put 2 plasma guns in eash of the platoon commands so they can jump out at the last second and shoot up any bad guys that get to my lines.

Better?
