How many units (if any) require the expansion book they were released with due to having a lot of special rules or their special rules having been shortened to fit?

More specifically Khador Units.

I'm not aware of any figs in WM/ Hordes needing the book to play. The cards have all the rules, except the general rules which can be found in the WM remix or Hordes primal.

Some of the more complex unit have several cards to make it possible to include all of the rules in the cards.

Does Prime Remix have cavalry rules and artillery?

Yes. Prime Remix has the rules from every expansion up to Superiority included.

Remix has rules for regular Cavalry and Weapon Crews. It does not have light Cavalry, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the rules for the cannons found in the Pirate book.

Both Light Cav(Evolution) and the Pirate book were released after Remix. Also, Warmachine has no Light Cav, so no need for the rule(yet).

Yes that's the nice point of WM. You really don't need any of the expansions to play with the units in them.

Only the basic rulebook and minis are required.

True, but you probably want to get the books for
background and to read other rules.

The faction decks have all the eratta on the cards up to superiority. And its cheaper to buy that than all the books.
