Anyone have any information on these: 1) Vampire, and 2) the 2 other figures? Are these models for the Lustria-zombie vampires or a whole new mercenary unit? Or is GW going the route of PP and adding pirates?

Are you talking about those older models? Cause thats all I can think of right now. And if you tried to put in a link, I dont think it worked.

This may be a sign of the apocalypse. Or at least a redo of the old Warhammer Zombie Pirate list. According to my cursory research, http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133847 it was in European WD 306. It seems like a stroke of marketing genius, as you will hook the new pirate curious population.

P.S. Yarrrrrr!

I wouldn't mind a reappearance of the Zombie Pirates, and the bags of mixed sprues that came with them. However, with PP clearly throwing their lot in with pirates, shouldn't GW focus on their eternal nemesis, ninjas? Where is the Nippon army (and I don't mean Eshin)? At least how about the Norse for pirate-esque fun.

Sartosa is that island off the southern tip of Tilea. So, these are not the same as the zombie pirates of Lustria.

I like pirates as much as the next guy, but a raced kinda
based on piracy is more interesting to me than this island.

Of course, as a gamer I reserve the right to completely
change my mind once actual news about the release comes
through. But until then: DOOM!

I'm glad that GW is embracing prates. They are truly one of the most awesomest things EVAR! Maybe this is the beginning of the turnaround we've all been hoping for.

And that's quite a fancy collar on the vampire.

Shiver me timbers its GW Pirates! I already have all the pirates I need from other companies and they are much fancier than these.

Hi Folks

These models are part of our Collectors Range. They are just a few fun pieces that are NOT linked to any particular army and will NOT have rules. The Collectors Range, as well as containing beautiful and elaborate pieces from our existing lists, will also contain fun, cool toy soldiers that merely expand the view of the world and don't have to fit into pigeon-hole. If people want to use them in their armies, that's fine, but it is not their primary intent. Their primary intent is to be a cool toy soldier.

Hooray for cool toy soldiers!

I hope this helps.

So, GW created these "just because"? That's the stupidest reason to make a set of miniatures, EVER.

I wonder how they look with PP's pirates? Or the Cryx unit? We could buy them to use as new models for a Privateer PRess game. Thanks GW! [/sarcasm]

Wow, instead of producing new models for an army being released, or using these resources in ANY WAY that makes sense, lets make models - no wait!! - "cool toy soliders."

Please tell me that guy isn't in marketing. Because calling models toy soldiers is kind of insulting.

Chill out, they might have been initially ran as possibilities of another line (Or DOW Fantasy unit), were subsequently canceled, then released anyway. I have no idea how this is not a win-win for gamers and GW. We get the possibility of buying another model (If we like them), they get to recoup some sales from molding them. Spare us the "WOE UNTO ME HE CALLED MY TOY SOLDIERS TOY SOLDIERS, WHY RELEASE MORE MODELS".

FYI, I would try to be somewhat civil with GW folk...you know so they keep coming back here.

@Scottywan82
Guess what they are toy soldiers, if you havent noticed it yet then open your eyes.

Personally i think creating cool minis just because its fun! its the best thing any company can do to cativate people imaginary.

Kudos on GW for these.

them..." Their LotR corsairs are much cooler.

Hold the phone, there, chief.

I am all for busting on GW, but they have a product, and your calling it out because of......? whoa there, full stop.

On one hand, These pirates do have a place, backstory, and a use in the game that is more important then on the surface is realized. On the other, your post was a bit off, to put it polite.
Usually I would outright call you out and call you a ... , or whatever.

1. The Vampires are legit as an army. They have thier weaksauce armybook codex thing, but they are well entrenched as the "UNDEAD" that they all encompass.
If you all remember the summer event, " Conquest of the New World", they are established in such a way that they are the type of army in the same scheme as the Amazons are. Not a mainstream army in terms of vampire counts, but they are there as a nich army that in fluff is importaint to the development of the Lustria area.

2. There are already Zombie Pirates. They have an army list and are a cool build without much of an effort. HAD GW been smart in a buisness sense, they would have continued to shell out the smaller more individualized armys, units, and models that ENHANCED the game, rather then tried to stifle imagination, and make everyone play in thier stale breadbox that they are turning thier games into. ( Vampire counts. High elves. empire. instead of something along the lines of- These vampires are from the sewers of Nuln, because of the fact that they are artificers, they have a few of these clockwork hulks that they use for their muscle. Or These Highelves are fighting in the edge of the Borderlands, they have a few dealings with humans and use mercinary units in thier armys from time to time. These are ( your specific area here) this is thier special ability because they come from this city. )
Real specific, player choice. It will equalize into me wanting to buy more stuff.

3. Conquest of the New World mentioned the vampire pirates, there was talk at the time of bringing them out as an offshoot, but as the time went on, it disappeared with the rest of the good ideas that came out of this campaing setting. Nothing is better then starting out with 500 points of your choice, and as the month progressed, you earned points then to be used to make up your army. Skirmish to unit to regiment to army in a year.
I thought the idea was brilliant. I hate the redshirt facists that I have to deal with at some of these stores, but at the time of this Schtick, I can trully say that it was one of thier best. New players were encouraged. they weren't just clowned on. We continued to evolve the setting and played the area in the same scheme as Mordhiem, as well. With the proper amount of care, These sort of things can really be an asset to the whole hobby.

4. Busting out GW because they make toy soldiers is probibly one of the worst insults I've ever read. If you are going to clown on the GW rep, please bring something legit to the conversation, such as- Why do I have to wait 2 years for supporting a great facet of the game, or maybe - Why would you cut off your own arm by STOPPING events such as this? Or something along that line...

Or how about, I actually like my minitures (or models, or a whole host of other names for them) to be useful. Or how about, if their going to produce miniatures, why not do it for one of the multitude of existing ranges? OR what about their BS that all new ranges produced will be fully supported?

And by the way, this is a toy soldier:

My apologies Scottywan82

It was not my intention to make you feel angry or unhappy through my use of the words "toy soldiers". If you would prefer I'll refer to them as Citadel Miniatures, or miniatures.

I was just posting to answer the OP, and provide the context that these Citadel Miniatures are being released in. To make these miniatures useful for your hobby (which I am assuming is collecting and painting armies for Warhammer and/or 40K) I would suggest you use these miniatures as characterful additions to a Vampire Counts army.

For others whose hobby may be exclusively collecting and painting characterful Citadel miniatures, they might also like these.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
Dave

I'll second that, Grot 6.

For what my opinion's worth, I don't care for the minis that I've seen (that vampire in particular,) but it's a step in a good direction. I see nothing wrong with making minis for their own sake, and it'd be no problem at all to incorporate them into your gaming somehow, perhaps as a third party independent of the main forces, to stir things up and cause trouble!

Bernard, float over here so I can punch you.

Thanks for answering! Is this a start of something new where more minis will be released "just because" and can be used to represent any 'mundane' hero/lord choice?

There's a bunch of models in GW's back catalog that you could sell 'for fun'. You could sell Squats, RT era Inquisitors, Tech's and such and I could give you money for them, that would be fun. Fingers crossed eh?
