I want to build a Chaos Landraider with a turret (quite likely the Chaos Predator Turret) with a set of las cannons and then put another set of las cannons on the front hull and put the twin linked heavy bolter and the normally pintle mounted havoc launcher in the sponsons. Will i have problems fielding it like that with people pointing out the weapons are not in the correct place?

I did the same thing with my Leman Russ - put the lascannon in the turret and the battle cannon in the hull, which looks better to me.

Just point out to opponents that the weapons are in nonstandard locations, and give them the option of forcing you to play as if the weapons are in their original locations. Of course it depends where you measure from anyway - if you measure from hull edge then it makes almost no difference where on the LR any weapons are. I'll be reading 5th Ed rules carefully to see what they say about measuring.

Thats an awesome Idea.
Although, as Clang pointed out, the changing rules in 5th ed might annoy some opponents, but I shouldn't think that it should come up as too much of a problem.

One Question - Where are you going to place the turret? Don't forget to post pics if you finish it, I'd love to see them.

Drake_Marcus: It's true- that's why the Space Wolves love termie armour so much. The whole "bear" thing they've got going on is just a thinly veiled cover-up of their huge, hairy cleavage.

The turret is gonna be over the hatch hole in the back since the turret has one of those hatches ontop itself.

One thing to consider when building standard vehicles (vehicles with a dedicated model kit) with a non-standard build is keeping turret mounted weapons in turrets, and sponson mounted weapons in sponsons.

The current version of the Land Raider's army entries, to the best of my lazy-and-not-going-to-walk-the-fifteen-feet-to-get-the-codex knowledge, lists the Raider's weapons as "a twin linked heavy boilter, 2 twin linked lascannons." On the other hand, a predator lists its weapons as a "turrent mounted twin linked lascannons... sponson lascannons," etc.

In those examples, for the Land Raider, it is rules ambiguous where the weapons go. For the predator, you would literally be chating if you swapped turret mounted and sponson mounted weapons.

My second thought is that you won't be able to use it as often. Generally speaking, I'm personally ok with whacky builds, but I draw the line when I think someone has deliberately modeled something for a game advantage. I know many (a large minority) gamers who would simply refuse to play with a vehicle like you described, mainly to avoid slowed and annoying arguments come turn 4.

My last thought on your proposal is that the new 5th edition is 2 months out, and the 5th ed SM 'dex is following soon thereafter. You may want to keep whacky conversions on hold till you have the books in hand, just so you don't waste your time and moola on something you can't ever use.

All thaqt being said, it's YOUR hobby, do whatever you think you'll have fun doing.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

DeathGod, I don't get it. There's always the option of simply measuring from where the weapons are usually located, so I don't see why anyone should flat-out refuse to play the OP.

I agree with TC. No way I would NOT play someone whoe throws down this defiler just because its weapons are not in their normal place.

This is a tricky issue in a sense. With 5th ed, LOS will be a big issue. This is a way that game play is affected by the model. I am a huge fan of counts as which is the game not being affected by the model.

If someone wants to change the weapon positions on their model that is all good in my opinion. I would recomend creating some detail that is in the position of the original weapon for measuring purposes so that the model doesn't function differently.

A player that gives you a hard time about it is being a tool.
