I'm currently painting a Pre-Heresy Luna Wolves army for someone. I've gotten a sample done and I thought I would share it with you all. The entire army is going to be like this or better (command squad will be more detailed). There are 30 Space Marines, 3 Land Speeders, 7 Drop Pods (from miniature scenery) and a command squad. After this, there will be some Dreadnoughts and what not to finish it out. I should have the army painted and finished by the end of next week.

There are a few details such as Luna Wolves decals and the Plasma gun glowing effect that haven't been done as well as the basing, but this should show you at least how everything will mostly look in the end.

I havent got my books here but werent the Luna Wolves more grey than white?

Nice neat painting on a difficult colour.

That armour doesnt really say pre-heresy to me though.

I always thought they were a little more off-white or really light grey, but this is what the client wanted. Money talks ehh?

I'm going to be going back after I get everything painted to do some weathering so they won't look so clean and crisp. It wasn't too difficult to get the color, but it did take a couple layers of white (i tend to dillute the paint quite a bit).

I'm not seeing very much that makes him a Pre-Heresy marine. That might come from the way he handles his gun (I can't really see his chest details, though his head looks nice). Overall, he doesn't have that ancient look yet.

Weathering effects should do it though. Also, if the group has several kinds of armor, that would make the effect very stiking (have some MK3, 4 and 5 armors on)

Currently this doesn't really stand out all that much. It's just a white marine with a different head.

Gotta push the retro aspect more- Bumpy heresy shoulder pads and what not. More external cabling. I'd also customize the bolters/plasma guns and what not too- to show that they're using older stamped versions. Maybe use some of the chaos weapons and file off the skulls; that could help out.

The heads and torso are from the Red Scorpions from FW. I was informed from the client the other day that he should have sent enough bumpy shoulderpads but only sent 3 (not 30) so those will more than likely be changed soon. We've also decided to go with an off-white to make them more like they are supposed to. More details will be added later on to the models. This is a sample model for the rest of the army. I will post pictures of the final paint job once finished. As for changing the way the army looks by converting them and what not... this is what the client wanted them to look like so that's kind of a no go.

Weathering and damage will be done later on to give them a not-so-clean look as well. This will probably be done with some chipping, marring as well as normal weathering.

Pictures of Red Scorpions armour used for the Luna Wolves. Scorpion symbols have been filed off and filled where needed as well.
