Ugh, played against a Deamon list and had never lost so bad in my life,
is it me or are CD overpowered in 40k. I play SM and just know if I had my Tau on the board it would have been worse. This was not a cheese army either. In reading the forums I have not seen or heard that Chaos Deamons are over powered, but having gone through the codex again...it well seems to be. Am I wrong, any other perceptions of it that I missed.

CD are the "new army", so GW almost certainly did quite a few things in rules and cost to ensure that the army would be "competitive" and therefore justify further growth and expansion.

It's just that a lot of people are poo-poohing the army for not being complete with CSM and Wargear and all the other goodies that Chaos had in the previous Codex.

I played against a Chaos Daemons list and it was actually a really good game, my only problem with it is the Greater daemon of Tzeetch Wrecked my gak. In a 2000 point game he killed 1000 points of my army.. It came down to him with one wound left blowing up 2 tanks a turn and then blowing up my Excorcist as the last thing in its way.

But Overall the regular daemons don't seem so bad, you just really have to rely on shooting them when they come in to at the very least get rid of some of their strength and then finish them up with an assault unit. I see it as their main weakness being they come in kinda peice meal so use that to your advantage and take out the units when all they can do is shoot.

Definitely not overpowered in my experience, but good mixed builds (and currently the fact that they're so different) can give most armies a run for their money. I think part of your loss is that you play space marines. What's your list like? I'm curious if you're particularly built towards anti-MEQ, as I think demons (along with orks and swarm nids in 5th) are going to do well against min/max anti-MEQ armies and less awesome against those armies with an eye towards dealing with hordes.

Don't discount the Tau so quickly. Tau shooting line is actually one of the armies that gives Daemons a run for the money, whereas standard Space Marines las/plas/meltas fighting Daemons fare worse than Charlie Brown at a field goal contest.

The best counter to Daemons: lots and lots of little shots. With very few/low armor saves, the way you kill daemons is by throwing buckets of S4/S5 dice at them.

Don't get Stelek going on the demon love. He will point out in detail their lack of strength vs. other builds. In my limited gaming with them so far I think they have problems with (in V5).

I'd posit the demon codex is at its best against MEQs. They have quite a few things that ignore armor saves (wind of chaos, hellblades, rending, GD/DP, defiler shooting options) and is relatively tough.

***Mech heavy. They don't have a great capacity to take out vehicles, especially fast vehicles that can keep away.
***Cheap horde opponents. Orks and Nids will likely give them fits. They don't save well, they are slower than nids and orks are the great cheap horde. Guard are less of an issue, but aren't they always

I played against a Demon army in the last RTT I was in. I was running a Raider heavy DE army and was pretty much able to dictate the course of the game once I got my units away from his shooty stuff.
After that I went about eliminating the faster units like Demonettes and Seekers, and then went on to destroy the slower units.
At games end I was left with more than half my army while the Demons were reduced to a unit of Horrors, the Masque, and a Bloodthirster that had the crap so thoroughly kicked out of him when he appeared that he hid behind some woods for the rest of the game.
It was a pretty good win because the guy playing the army has won more than his share of RTT's and he said that I was one of a few people that had beaten his army. He did say Ork armies give him trouble, also, because of the numbers Ork players can throw into them..

Yea, I played against Salvage's list, and I gotta say, even against more well rounded (not all Khorne) lists I think Sisters stand up really well. I would be inclined to think that any high volume troop/fire army would do really well too. With standard toughnesses and poor saves, most troop type daemons go down like a prom date to massed fire, and even the big ones are not horrific.
I do think that daemons, somewhat like orks, will be a foil to extremely elite armies. Marines and CSM will likely have problems if they focus on expensive squads, though as stated mechanized forces do not have as much of an issue. However, armies with small, expensive units that can be butchered by flamers dropping, or can't put out the volume of fire to drop 10 bloodletters in a hurry are going to be in trouble.

Has anyone played Daemons vs Daemons? How does that work?
