i am getting around to painting again. and i wanted to start painting my tau rather then playing with a tourny legal army.

i am wanting am urban winter paint job. at first i was thinking of doing the sa cea sept colors, but with a different color of the sept markings (i am liking white). as in the dex it says that the sa cea colors are common for urban fighting.

but at the same time, i dont want to do something main stream.


about my models.

my fire warriors are simple. no conversion.

my crisis suits have thier leg cut at the knee joint, then i take that pice and flip it around. so i can model them walking, climbing, or steping on something. and some other minor convesion work related to the guns. i refuse to have any of them flying. to meny times have i seen that little plastic tab break off inside the model.

i have kick gue la (human aux units) warriors. (ill get some pics up once i get one painted) they are heavily converted.

and the kroot simple for now as well, though i have plans for these guys. some cool, at the same time, easy conversion work.


bases.

all of the things on a regular base are standing on a pice of cork (really good urban rubble, but might hurt with new "true LOS" rules)

on the cork, i glued a bit of sand. the cork i am thinking of standard urban gray painting. but the sand is going to be snow.



with all this in mind, anyone know of a decent paint job that i could do??

I went for a mountain/urban camo scheme in black/grey/white. Its an easy scheme to undercoat and highlight and still looks effective on the board (at least I think so ).

The Crisis suits shown there are my first command squad when tau were first released, hence their loadout is a little less than effective (this has been rectified since). My latest 'suits aren't on there yet but also use similar knee techniques to make them a bit more dynamic. Also everything is magnetized up to the gills for maximum flexibility

The other main conversions there are my Broadsides with arm mounted railguns (so much nicer than shoulder mounted in my view) and a Hammerhead that I scammed up back in the day when you could arm the things with Burst Cannon AND drones.

I also hacked up some Cadians and Kasrkin as Guela'vesa.

There is also some Guard stuff in there for giggles.

IMO Tau look best in military camo patterns. Obviously you'll want colors that match the basing techniques you use. For example, a mostly green flocked base might look better with a green/brown army over an urban camo. Some nice schemes I've seen:

Gray/blue/black
green/brown/black
gray/green/black

I've never been a fan of the bright striking colored Tau, though I can still appreciate a well painted mini.

Cool stuff, Flinty - I like what you did with the Kasrkin Guela'vesa. But that Guard-Riding-Scarab is probably one of the weirdest conversions I've seen around - not badly executed, mind - just weird!

I would tend to agree, however this lot was my first foray into basing stuff and I needed a fast job to get them ready for a tournament... possibly unfortunate but a good learning process. Also the boards I usually play on are all green anyway. And camouflage works anywhere

Biggest problem i had with the Kasrkin Guela'vesa was scratching off all the imperial imagery... on the plastic cadians it was pretty easy but not for the heavy mob...

You also need to read/see more Ghost in the Shell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell), a manga and anime by the celebrated Masumune Shirow. Mr Guard-Riding-Scarab (counts-as autocannon sentinel) is pretty much as close as I could get to these babies easily...
