Subject: The Olympics are here. Rant about the costumes
By now most of us have seen the opening ceremony. Boring and weird as usual. But after watching the country parade I wanted to rant a little bit about the costumes some countries used for their athletes.
Japan - Pretty uniform for nautic sports, they came together from the marina after parking the yatch.
Italy - Cargo pants with jackets? what´s next afro wigs with top hats?
Swiss - They went for the skater look, rumor has that 2012 will be the EMO look
Spain - They come in 2 colors, all yellow for the lassies, all red for the lads. I wonder the color of the underwear.
US - How much did you guys paid Ralph Lauren for that ridiculous beret?. Probably the US guys came with the japanese from the marina.

I missed most of the ceremony, fell asleep after 12 hours at work and digging in my garden for 2 hours, then awoke to find my dog had vomited on me and the tape had run out about 2 minutes before Australia came out to do thier lap.... :(
Watched parts of it tonight though.
Why did Yemen have bagpipes playing when they entered the stadium?

"Boring and wierd"? "as usual"?
I dunno, I think that you had to be impressed with the final lighting of the torch, with the guy running around the top of the stadium. That's a good trick.
As far as opening ceremonies go at the Olympics, this was the most impressive thing I've seen.
A bizarre array of focusing mirrors and lenses turning my phrases into even more accurate clones of
Hell yeah John. The choreography they had for all those skits with 1000+ people in each was amazing. I think it has been the best opening I've seen in the ~15 years I've been watching the Olympics.
My friends and I have made up our mind: we're going to Jordan for next summer. All their olympic competitors were very cute or pretty hot.
I also enjoy the VISA commercials. Very inspiring, though anything Morgan Freeman does sound inspiring. The life stories segments they have is as good as always. Inspiration and the quest for glory is the backbone of the olympics.
They should have had some guy run up to the platform, sit
on it, and self-immolate the lighting of the torch.
It would have been a stunning protest.

Funny fact the torch guy, triple gold in LA84, has a sport clothing bussiness. His shares went up a 15% when he was choosen as the last relay.
And watching another time the whole mess I realized that the spaniards where trying to mimic the flag, but of course with everybody running around the effect broke up 10 meter inside the course.

I thought the opening ceremony was great. Amazing spectacle.
The Olympians marching out was too long, but it always is. Australia was wearing tracksuits, for some odd reason. According to the press they're really expensive fancy tracksuits, but I'm not really sure that matters.

Did they have the ceremonial "Beating of the Political Prisoners" dance routine before or after the athletes entered?

I was kind of hoping for some soldiers with sticks to start hitting the athletes and make them walk faster.

Actually I think it was more of a flat cap. I think a couple of the guys were wearing it sideways or backwards, so it sort of looked like a beret from that angle. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a jerk about terms, I just thought it was kind of funny because someone else called it a beret while I was watching it yesterday. I looked on the Ralph Lauren website to see what they were calling it, but I couldn't find it.

I find quite funny that classical circus acrobatics by two men painted in gold is considered a content not suitable to minors by youtube.

I kept thinking to myself watching the opening ceremonies and seeing Bush and Putin chilling on the side lines "Why are you there Putin? You need to be... ya know... doing stuff... with Georgia..."

Considering the fact that most of youtube is made of 15 year old homophobes, I can see why. They just can't appreciate two hot, muscular, sweaty men doing intensive physical stuff together.
