I've been a dormant little eldar player or a few months, from just before the start of the 5th edition. im debating weather to continue with my fragmented eldar army of just random buys with a very loose background based around ulthwe or to start afresh with a true and pure ulthwe eldar army, putting alot work into conversion and what not.

What do you people think and do you have any ideas?

Start fresh. Get all the models to match and have a plan.

It sounds like most of your force will have to be bought fresh to a 5th edition plan.

Can't you use your existing models as veterans/sergeants/heroes (whatever the Eldar equivalent is.)

If you've got a decent-sized pile of Eldar, it shouldn't be too hard to get them up to playable status. Finishing them should be easier, and cheaper than all-new.

personally ive seen your army and think it looks really kool, and the idea of starting a fresh is a pritty good idea, you could seel ya army, which is wat almost apoc size? then start again, buy bitz and all and make ya guys converting frenzy, whilst also killing a few sm ;-)

Buy some apoc formations if your gonna start fresh. Ends up saving you more.

I'm currently in the process of re-doing my speed freeks from 3rd edition now I'm better at painting and modelling, I wouldn't really want to do any other army.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

I think it's better to keep building and then go back and re-fit or replace models. If you start over, you're that much further from a tourney-ready force. If you keep going, you'll have a tourney-ready force a lot sooner. Convert and spend some extra time on any new models you add, but just keep the existing stuff 'as is'. Then look to replace/refit the existing models after you have a tourney-ready force together. Then trade/sell off the existing stuff when it's replacement is done. And when I say refit, I mean rebasing/repainting, even going back to do some conversion work as needed.

I say hell no, but that's mostly based on the way I do things. I paint about 6 models a year so if I started over it would be several years before I had a chance to start playing again. And the years of effort that went into building up what I already had would be lost. So I suppose the question to you is, how much money and effort have gone into your existing army? Do you think you would be happy buy just expanding it out to the army you want or do you think that's not very likely?
