OK, yeah, republicans to it too. but it seems like Democrats do it more at least around my way.

Today, I came home from work and saw 2 nicely dressed young gals with clip boards walking down the street. They were cute, but probably half my age. I quickly pulled into my driveway and ran inside hoping they didn't see me. They eventually made it to my door, and I didn't answer because the Lost season 2 dvd set I just bought was more important. After they were gone and it was safe to go outside again, there was an Obama pamphlet in my door.

Does anyone else go out of your way to avoid these folks and even screen your calls just because you hate being bugged by people that are just way too interested in politics? Or am I just turning into that crazy neighbor with gun cases full of army men that no one likes?

Usually, it's dodging the excessively-religious... and I have to say, what's the deal with sending "missionaries" to American cities? I thought missionaries were sent to the dark reaches of the world, to bring enlightenment to the savages. Middle Tennessee isn't exactly lost to the Lord.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

I always say no to door to door people and hang up on cold callers.

I make my mind up early on and a talk for a few minutes won't change my mind.

We get a heap of US election coverage here in Oz every night on the news, it must be wall to wall for you guys.

The trick is knowing who to dodge, what not to watch, and where not to go. For example, living in a red state, I know not to walk around the town square, since the Republican party's office is there and I'd rather not go to jail for clobbering some activist who has lost enough command of English to "no comprende" the words "not interested". Similarly, there are players at the LFGS that I can talk to, and others who I have to shut down before they get started... and they include Dems, Reps, and indies. It takes some doing, but you cobble up a modus vivendi to survive election years.

It's either that, or invest in a bolt-action rifle and access to a belltower.

Depends on which state your in. If your in a so-called battle ground state then yes you get a lot of it. If your in a so-called red or blue state then no you don't. It simply amazes me how much political power people surrender by being permanently aligned with one party. Utah is permanently in the Republican camp, which is why we don't get bothered a lot. Of course no one listens to us either.

Living in Chicago, the precinct captains (yes, we're famous for having those) try to
knock on my door and have us put up signs. Typically they're pushing some
insider along with whoever is the big ticket.

But sometimes they don't come around at all. That's how we got to keep Stroger :(

For us here in Florida, it's just the Mormons, aka God's Bike Messengers. Though my mail box has been stuffed with political fear-flyers. "The other candidate has yet to decry eating babies! What does he have to hide?"

HArdly ever anyone coming round canvassing, and the only times they did it was the Tories, who I laughed at, explained that I still remember Thatcher, threw in I don't trust the smarmy gits in Westminster and saw them on their way.

It can get kind of out there sometimes. However like people pushing religin or products, its fairly easy to get rid of them an dmake them feel unwelcome. Saying "No" and slamming the door works well.
