Subject: Converting equipment options in Necromunda/Gorkamorka

Recently I've gotten interested in Necromunda again. I bought the new rulebook a while
back, but it's basically been stuck on the shelf for some time now. Since I'm getting back
into the hobby again, I thought I'd give it a try.
One question I can't figure out though. What do you do when your models get new equipment?
Do you actually snip and clip on the model to replace weaponry and such? Do you make
an entirely new model and just give him the same name?
recently I've gotten hold of a few squat models, and I'm thinking about making them into a
necromunda excavation team, based on the Van Saars. But the thought of cutting into those
old models has gotten me a bit jittery.
Any advice to offer people?

You can do either, really. It's all down to personal choice.

If your worried about damaging your figures, paint up a different one with the new weapon. With squats its even easier as most of the faces look the same due to the beards and if it is totally different then he just changed his clothes and restyled his beard, I know I do that...

I guess that's what I'll end up doing. Only problem is that Squat models cost a bundle! So far I've only gotten hold of some
metal models, and they cost about an arm and the right kneecap. I'm keeping an eye out for some of the plastic ones, so
if I can get some of those it will be alot easier.
Thanks for the pointers fellows

Here's a house rule we adopted in one campaign to limit the number of times you'd swap around weapons on gangers.
Generally, we swapped gear either due to wounds (leg injury = shooting) or WS/BS upgrades. If one ganger is WS 5 and the other BS 5, and they had lasgun vs. pistol and club - you'd want to switch gear.
When you get a BS or WS upgrade, owner can choose, but they can never be more than one apart. So, first upgrade to a ganger with a lasgun was BS. Next one had to be WS. Next one could be either.
We didn't find it that unbalancing, and nothing is more frustrating that seeing you WS 4 BS 3 heavy with the stubber get another WS.

Other things you can do are to glue the weapon onto a square base, and drybrush it. Then you have the "Interchangeable" weapontry for the gangs.
We used the same guys for games, then if they got too many guns. options, etc. we ended up making entirly new guys and adding the original back into the pit.
Some of the options might seem to be more work, but when people trade and lose weapontry as much as they do in this game, the options really arn't too hard to figure out that you can trade the weapons around without messing with your gangers.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |
