I know nothing is planned, but I'd thought I'd give designing a new army a go. Something to do when my head isn't full of other stuff.
I decided to think up a 'techno-druid' theme.
These guys use the power of the five elements (the usual plus warp/spirit) to defend those planets that are 'Ley Planets'.
Weapon Ideas:
Focussed Solar Weapons
Weather Manipulation (Wind Blasts, Mud baths making parts of Terrain suddenly 'dangerous', lightning strikes, fog, etc)
Tesla Accumators (for the Lightning)
Rock Launchers (but via a Rail gun)
Earth Tremors
Two types of 'Orbital Bombardment': Meteor shower and Solar Knife. Meteor shower would be d6 meteors with a strength 9 attack AP3; Solar Knife would use the scatter dice to move a focussed beam of solar energy scatter dice length from initial impact acting as plasma weapon to anything within two inches of line of travel.
For troops, I don't see why stats can't be roughly the same as for other troops as long as the concept is different and remains balanced.
Could be allied to Eldar or not.

I would always like the idea of humans living on the far reaches of the galaxy and had no idea of the existence of the "emperor of man" or the "ruinous powers" so imagine humans who still know how their tech works. Oh wait never mind that's the basic idea of the Tau isn't it? (except the human part)

I'm actually designing these separatist humans, who shun the emperor, and do shady deals with Chaos and Xenos races, but aren't directly influenced by them.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I got a great army idea.
How about the remnants of an ancient race that uses crystal base technology and they stay neutral in the fight against Chaos. The grim dark part is that they have to feed on souls to sustain themselves because they developed a need to consume them after thousands of years of isolation from the Warp.
I'm thinking they could be kind of shadowy and mobile but extremely fragile.

A skaven equivalent. Not the Hrud, but more along the lines of a weak, numerous race of technological madmen, possible designed along a sort of "alien gremlins" angle.

Personaly I think it would be best for GW to focus on existing armies, like um um Lost and the danmed and..lets see...Dark eldar.
However the idea about Space werewolf vampire Pirate ninja monkey etc etc etc might be interesting...so long as they are'nt blue and in no way have the word ultra as any part of the name.

You can't give love and attention to the Lost and the Damned or they'll stop being lost and damned.
I think more robots would be a good idea. Come up with a human or alien faction that makes heavy use of robots. It could be like a cross between guard/tau and necrons. It could even be a system of human planets that escaped the machine rebellion at the end of the Dark Age of Technology and have kept all their advances including fully functional STC gear. They are aware of the Imperium but use their superior technology to avoid contact with them. Few in number but they have access to robot warriors, anti-grav, AI computers, non-exploding plasma weapons, conversion beamers, stabilisers that allow heavy weapons to be fired on the move by infantry, power armour and so forth.

I've developed my original idea to a section of a formerly 'Sublimed' race who have taken a second (Millenia in 'normal' time) to see how the galaxy they left is doing and are horrified that its full of warlike plebs killing each other.
Furthermore, there collection of Garden or Ley planets that they had laid out in a culturally and spiritually pleasing patterns have been shattered and destroyed or fouled with industrialization.
So, they (while still sublimed) stopped time for a bit to have a heated debate and a small war in heaven over what should be done between the 'stay at homers and do nothing' faction and the 'my god what have they done' faction.
The war continued until both sides got bored. The angriest of the 'MGWHTDers' decided to unsublime on a small out of the way planet and created a civilzation capable of taking on the rest of the Races in about a day.
Someone pointed out that would be dull, so they scaled down their technology to make it 'fair'. (they left mortal logic behind long ago and are by our standards loopy).
They still use stuff like Solar/wind/wave and other hippy stuff to fight with. For a change, they didn't come down in humanoid form, but as tripodal aliens, (though they can change there shape at will, this one is most popular).
Influences: Idiran/Culture Novels with a bit of the Affront thrown in if I go for a bit of bio design.

Hmmm, screaming hordes of men women and children armed with everything they can get their hands on, many ritually mutilated and carrying banners covered with signs and sigils of the dark gods...it's just crazy enough to work. Throw in a few rabid family pets and an heretical preacher or two and this would be damned fine/fun to play.
I think you'd need to do genestealer cults seperately as they aren't corrupted people so much as following the philosophy of make love then war with every generation having different stats.

you mean like the old school frateris malitia? and human bombs? Didn't Gw stop them because of political correctness? Wait, daemons aren't politically correct, they make Johnny pee the bed at night when he has nightmares.....I wan't human bombs back in the game, if the real human bombs get uppity about, they can certainly just pullthe trigger early and get it over with.

I think if there is a new game I think there needs to be alook at not only how they fit in thematically, but also how they play differently to other armies.
I'd almost say they need an army that maybe they need an army which is very tough but doesn't kick out a lot of damage - so T5 with poor HtH and AP6 weapons. Just me thoughts

YES!! With blue flames!! That would be the awecemetariest.
I've always wanted to make an incorporated Tau race that were like giant land snails with weapons mounted on their shells and controlled by their antennae. They'd be slow and ponderous, and treat Difficult terrain as dangerous Terrain, but they'd be really tough because of their shells.
