So at my LGS they have started playing this game. Some of the guys are getting the kits from GW for the gangs and others are converting 40K figures. I am looking at the Van Saars gang and wanted to know if you get enough options in the GW kits to make figures with different weapons.

Some of the local players are converting Cadian Shock Troops for their gangs, but I don't wnat the helmets for my guys. Now if could take the Stormtroopers and make an enforcer gang, but I am not sure.

Is this game fun to play? I like 40K and Warmachine/Hordes games systems. So would this be a games with a little different focus to what I am currently playing?

Necromunda is a very fun game.

My local gaming group started up a league out of the blue a few months ago.
I didn't join as I didn't have the minis but the =][=munda blogs have got me getting parts together to make my own models.

It is best in a campaign/league type environment as your gang develops skills, equipment and eccentricities.

Necromunda is a great game. I know everyone has their favorite specialist game, but getting into the hobby when specialists games were still very prevalent and still being produced, I played alot of them and Necromunda was definitely my favorite.

Your gangs characters will have many a memorable fight and you will have tons of wild tales of their accomplishments( also their misfortunes) that really start giving your gangers a personality. So you might end up with a crazy guy with a head injury that you just charge blindly into combat.

It's also really cool when you have a juve rank up over time to become a real badass in the game. It just gives it so much character.

If you've got an active Necro group I would definitely start playing. It doesn't cost alot to get started and with cheaper GW kits around and bits ordering services you can put together a unique and cool collection of models for a relatively low price.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

I´m totally with Cadaver here, have also played many of the specialist games (both Mordheim and BFG when they were originally published in WD all those years ago...), and my clear favorite is Necromunda.

I think it´s the narrative feel of the game. Your fighters get cool skills, one of them has a horrible injury, but after a close run barter session you manage to find a guy who can get him a bionic, it´s great stuff!

necromunda is amazing! quick games, full of character! you just never know whats going to happen in a game. me and 5 of my friends having been playing a campaign for last few months. in my opinion one of the best games GW have made and so many options for convertions and such, just wish they still sold most of the models. bring back necro to the main scene! lol

bring back necromunda!

Necromunda all the way! I really enjoy the story element that comes as your gangs evolve. As for the modeling side, you can get away with using IG as various factions with a bit of work. Some guys were saying that the new cadian command squad comes with loads of weapon bits (weapon swaps are the easiest route into converting). At the moment one of the Gangs I'm running as Van Saar are Elysians with metal ACW slouch hats from Redoubt. Check out the necromunda galleries for usefull pics.

I basically agree with all of the posts, Necro is a great game to play, very fun! For Van Saar, try buying some eldar guardians and getting some Empire Flagellant or Catachan heads from Bitz Box (Get the bearded flagellants not the crazy ass guys with fire in their hair!)

Ooh, cool idea with the eldar/humie heads. Yeah, the new eldar armor look could work very well for VanSaar. Catachans also work fairly well for Goliath/Orlock gangs and the Flagellants make fine conversions into Redemptionists...not that the GW model line suffers from lack of options for Redemptionists.

With head swaps a lot of the Assassin pieces convert to VanSaar very well too.
