Yeah I don't know if we already have one or not but I guess I've decided to start a music related discussion.
What are your favorite bands/artists?
Do you play any instruments?
What are you currently listening to?
As for me, I'm into mostly grunge and metal but some classic rock and punk. My favorite band is Tool (greatest band ever), I also listen to Alice in Chains, Metallica, The Melvins, Pantera, Godsmack, TAD, Dethklok Nirvana, Soundgarden. KoRn (just their first three albums, the other are lame), Motorhead, Rammstein and a bunch more.
I play both electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar and a little bit of drums. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard (though a wish it were a Gibson Custom), an Ibanez Gio Bass and a Yamaha Drumset.
I'm currently listening to I'm Broken by Pantera. (the link can be found below because I'm a n00b to this forum)

Favorite bands... Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, SeLF, Fluid Ounces,(these last two being some of the greatest acts that nearly no one have ever heard of even though one, SeLF,has been on a major label and produces for EVERYBODY. It's like his work is good enough to propel other peoples careers, but they don;'t know how to market him.) White Zombie (though the rob zombie stuff is kind of lesser quality) Slipknot, Marilyn Manson,(last album SUCKED out loud) Metallica (mostly their early stuff up to Black) and alot of other random stuff from the grunge era. I really am starting to fall into the getting old thing though with not really liking anything new that comes out. In other genres... John Williams, Yoka Kano, chris Botti some rap from the late 80's and early 90's, ICP Twizted, Dark Lotus. Yes... my musical taste is frenetic and all over the place.
I am finally learning how to play Bass and own a BC Rich Warlock platinum series. If I actually get good enough to justify the money to myself, I might consider getting one of the BC Rich Exotic Virgos. It has a two tone wood neck thru design that just says 'Classy".
Current listening is a collection of white zombie albums from 1986-1992 before they made it big. They sounded alot different then, Kind of a cross between the way they are now and some of the experimental noise projects from Sonic Youth.

Oh I knew I was forgetting someone. Yeah White Zombie is an amazing band, much better than Rob's solo stuff, my favorite song by them is El Phantasmo and the Chicken-Run Blast-O-Rama.

BC Rich make heavy, ugly, over-priced instruments - only their upper tier of products are of good standard, but I'm not a fan of the neck action. If you have a cheapo, get it into a digital lineup before anyone hears it.
If you want to learn to play bass, get a Yamaha RBX375... Entry level instrument that a pro would have no qualms about playing on.
I'm a music nut. I mostly play keyboards, but love heavy music. My grandfather was a church organist... but I play death metal.
My favourite artists are At The Gates, Death, old Metallica (Master!), Vehemence (disbanded group from phoenix... listen to 'She Never Noticed Me' on myspace or something). In the car I only listen to ABC Classical FM - favourite composers are Vivaldi, Rachmaninoff, and Mozart's themes (most Mozart is silly, anti-thematic masturbation).
Just to outdo 1Kth Son, my girlfriend has a GIBSON Les Paul standard. Heh heh heh... It's really damned nice... but also quite heavy.
Right now I'm listening to Sikth, some british piece of crap with surprisingly capable, whilst incredibly gay vocals, and ridiculously good composition.
I mostly perform on my Korg keyboards, but with these damned computers nowadays I won't say I 'play' any brand in particular. I've done music for advertising, film, a few student computer games...
Anyone in Australia who wants a six-track CD of my most recent symphonic death-metal project, let me know.
Oh. Just found out that Vehemence is performing again. Cool.

On BC Rich... heavy... yeah... very... I was shocked the first itme I put it on how heavy it was. Ugly... gonna have to disagree. Their designs always seem to be polarizing. You either like them or hate them. I have had a thing for their designs since the first time I saw Jeordie White playing one. I'll take your word on over priced... then again I bought mine off of ebay for a little over 200 shipped.

What are your favorite bands/artists?
hmm, my top 5 would have to be:
-Pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magik Chili Peppers (that Funk sound suited them exceedingly well in my opinion)
-Drowning Pool (shoot me dead if you want, but I prefer Ryan's sound to Dave's)
-Disturbed
-Rammstein
-Taproot
What are you currently listening to?
Rise Against's latest album, "Appeal to Reason".

On Drowning Pool... I never want to hear anything that involved Dave again (done to death), and the walking corpse or a band that remains... well... they had their day. Some musicians ought to be shot for being TOO listen-to-able.
Rammstein was a big one for me...six... seven... eleven years ago. Wow. That's scary. That was about when Disturbed started crapping all over the place too.

Lemme see.
Favorite Artists:
Dream Theater, Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Mazzy Star, The Go-Gos, Fleetwood Mac, Motorhead, Fairport Convention, Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits, The Cult, Sandy Denny, The Offspring, Social Distortion, Robert Plant, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Rolling Stones, etc... the list just keeps on going... (And I've seen most of the above in concert)
I've played guitar for 20+ years, and rework most of my equipment myself. I've currently got a couple of strats, one with a lone DiMazzario Evolution (super-hot) pickup, one with Lace Sensors, a Jay Terser equipped with a segmented pickupfor guitar-synth processors, and another with classic Seymour Duncan '59's.
I've got three current amp setups. One is a straight Fender DeVille, one is a vintage Fender Champ (10-watt, all tube) that I rewired and overdrove the tubes on, and one is a stereo-effects rig based around a Roland GR-33 Guitar Synth, and a Digitech 2120 multiprocessor (with an attached theramin as an expression device too).
I'm kind of a gearhead when it comes to sound.

Mainly listen to: Dream Theater, In Flames, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Faith no More.
Instrumentally I play Saxophone, and guitar. Gear wise i have a strat copy and an SG copy. The great thing about the SG copy is that it looks expensive and we put some decent Ibanez Humbuckers in it. Amp wise my dad foolishly bought a bass amp (fender frontman) he usually knows what hes doing (played for like 45 years) but didnt realize that it was a bass amp, fortunately he got it from a second hand store.

Listent o lots and lots of stuff from pretty much any genre... not that keen on jazz is all, but in smal doses.
Thing I can't stop listening to at the moment is dan le sac vs. scroobius pip which was a pretty influential tune over here in the not too rcent past.
Aside from that I've also been playing a lot of Aphex twin, the last NiN album and the last Johnny Cash album. The new Last Shadow Puppets album. and an old old old Josh Wink trance track is on my playlist at home.

Wow..a fellow US person who is into dubstep. And as for Josh WInk (or Winx when he released my fav track) would be "Don't Laugh". That song is trippy. For Higher the "Origional Album Mix" is by far the best mix. Granted good luck finding it anymore as the only place I have ever found it was the Origional LP and then a Maxi Single later that year. If you havent heard it Im sure we can hook something up to get you the mp3.
As for more dubstep - HELP. Im an Okie...I know, I should be wearing boots (or kickers as they are called here) and LOVE Garth Brooks....I know I know Im pigeon holing here but there REALLY are a lot of rednecks here.
Im only familiar with a few names but I know of Burial & Benga plus stuff I can find on internt radio and you tube. So enighten me.
As for other stuff...Really into the latest The Presets and Modeselektor. As for rock, we got any other yanks into Feeder? I was stationed with a couple SAS blokes in the big sand box who turned me onto them. Good stuff.

Ah, now that flag, it lies. I'm not American + I have no idea of anyone named Garth Brooks . I could probs keep you here all day giving you names but yeh benga n burial aint a bad start. Had the chance to see benga live a few times both as meg man and by himself. If you can get hold of the mary anne hobbs show via the bbc site over there thats got to be the best way of hearing stuff together with rinse.fm if you don't have a good dub scene locally, which i guess you wont. youtube can be good tho mind you http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MS0ykyJn9Zg -> my fav track. Good to know theres another dubfan on the dakka, I was half thinking no-one would know what it is.
Can't say I've heard the josh wink track, I was under the impression he was a one hit wonder, at least he was here. I shall have a look for it on the net.

Man I used to be the biggest dnb fan, thought a lot of pendulum back then. Blood sugar was the 2nd to last record of theirs i bought, before they sold out and the last record i bought of theirs, was windowed.
The other stuff is a bit mainstream for my liking, and one tune you mentioned in particular brings back some uncomfortable and embarassing uni memories.

I listen to In Flames, Nightwish, Rammstein, Iron Maiden and some metallica mainly. Currently have a boxset of RobZombie (including some WhiteZombie stuff) playing on the computer.
I used to play rhythm guitar (Ibanez radius in left hand) in a band until I bisected the radial nerve in my left thumb (work accident) which left me with no real feeling in the tip.

Cookie for you. can't recall which mix but it's the 2nd on the old CD single I like best... acid tweaker mix possibly ? Song takes me back to some..... "interesting" nights I had in my more... exploratory phase. DMT FTW !
