Ridin' on a Snotling Pump Wagon

Last night, on their second outing, my Savage Orcs came up against an army formed using the new Warriors of Chaos book.

Both my opponent and I had a very satisfying game, as for the first time in a long while, neither player was at all familiar with his opponents army. And indeed, neither player was all that familiar with their own force to boot.

The two Lords met, and in the second round my Warboss nobbled his Khorne Lord with not one, but two killing blows to the face (chomp!) but I was not expecting him to have a -1+ save. Then again, the look on his face when I announced the presence of the Tricksy Trinket was priceless! I have learned that Chaos Magic is now pretty damned nasty, Mark of Nurgle is a pain, and that my opponent is absolutely terrified of Savage Orc Big'uns, due to sheer amount of S5 attacks they can kick out in a single round.

I am still trying to figure out the Boarboyz, as their frenzy of course means they are easily baited (though when I get the second unit, and stop my list being 145 points down! it might get easier) and I am finding my Magic difficult to pull off (had two attempts at Waaagh! every turn, and didn't get a single one off).

But regardless. Both of us had an absolute blast, and my only regret is that it will probably be a while before I find myself in a position to enjoy a 'blind' game like that once again, simply because I now know what to look out for and vice versa!

Got to say, although a Tournament player, my opponent was very easy going, and we had some brief discussion before the game to set house rules (for example, Frenzy means immune to psychology. One of his spells causes a Ld Test. We agreed it would affect the Savages) and get us both on the same page.

Eventually, I lost the game as I always forget table quarters are worth VPs in Fantasy (why I can't get my head round that I'll never know) and he used his Hound masterfully. But hey, gave a good account of myself, and next time, I'll know what to hit first. And I'll have 5 more Boarboyz for him to worry about!

Sweet. And not to rare, IMO.

You KB'd his lord? Pretty cool. Must have been pretty funny when he realized his awesome save was useless.

Was even better when we found out Killing Blow also ignored his irritating Regenerate!

It was just refreshing to come up against an army I knew next to nothing about. Not only have I been gaming for many years, but I'm also one of those weirdos who buys every army book as it comes out. Mainly for the fluff, but also for excellent toilet time reading.

We both had the same level of courtesy, took the time to explain the magic items we had (as it became necessary of course) and what they did, and happy to ask each other about possible interpretations. In short, although I lost, it was more or less a perfect game for me. The guys are looking at organising an instore Tournament, and I might be up for it. Not sure which army I'll use (Dark Elves, Empire or Orcs) just yet, if I take part at all.

Mind you, I think I'm taking on Gummers Daemons next week, and I've never played against so far, so you never know. And I reckon if anyone can chin Daemons into next week, it's my Boyz. Don't fear them, decent toughness and a Ward all my own. Reckon I'll be about nice!
