Ok so more of my old 40k friends have joined me in returning to warhammer. Only problem is there are 5 of us and only 1 day in the near future (next friday) when we are all free to play, and only limited terrain and gameboards between us. Luckily each of us has armies that could fit into a kind of good vs evil scenario since we have Tyranids (myself), CSM and Necrons Vs Space Marines and Guard.
Now, just earlier today I had an idea for a game where the Space Marines and Guard deploy first, in the middle of the board in a fortified settlement. The Tyranids, Chaos and Necrons then deploy in 3 different corners of the board and have the first turn to represent a surprise attack. At first the SM and Guard will be outnumbered points wise however they would have the cover and would get reinforcements.

The only problem is, how much points should each side get?
We were thinking of 750 for Guard and Space Marines each to make 1500 in the fortified settlement and 700 for each attacking force making 2100 assaulting from outside. The Guard and Space Marines would then get 250 points of reinforcements each coming from the final corner of the board in the same manner as reserves (but with a 1 turn delay). Deep striking would be allowed.
However we are not sure if this is balanced and fair or not, obviously the attacking side would have 100 more points in total but we assumed that the fortified cover would make up for that. All of us agree that fairer and closer games are much more enjoyable so I have come to you guys to ask for opinions as to how many points each side should get.

(Note: I am more than aware that CSM, Necrons and Nids would never work together, this is just for fun.)

Is all down to the Victory Conditions.

Once upon a time, I took part in a Starship Troopers rip off scenario, where the Guard (horrendously outnumbered by never ending Nids) needed just a single surviving model to win. Hence why one particular Guardsman, having carefully got the rest of his squad killed, scuttled off and hid in a corner alternately sniggering and wetting himself!

Victory conditions would be something like:

Nids, Chaos and Necrons: Annihilation
Space Marines and Guard: Survive for x turns or Annihilation

not really sure how many turns is realistic either tbh, maybe 8 or is that too much?

6 ought to be enough. Otherwise, with Annihilation being a VC, the bad guys have something of an advantage.

Or perhaps a lower one, of around 4 turns. This forces the larger force to fight smart with it's numbers, rather than just repeatedly bludgeoning the enemy with attrition.

the attackers have only 100 points more than the defenders, while the defenders have a lot of cover on their side.

I was thinking use it as like a city attack scenario where the forces in the city are attacked. Attackers win if they annihilate the enemy or if they capture the settlement (no enemies within the settlement but there are friendly troops there at the end of the turn). Defenders win if they fend off the attackers for 6 turns.

How does that sound?
