As an interesting aside...

I had my first game on the board last night, and I quite liked it. Other than the hills (we were playing 6'x4') all we needed was a couple of woods to make it bust enough for a game.

Perhaps it's just my experience with less than brilliant terrain options, but to have a *large* hill you can fit more than one unit on was very pleasent, even if it was on my opponents side of the table!

Pretty much convinced myself to get on now.

well maybe, the board is nice, maybe you can have some really great games on it (which doesnt really say anything bout the quality of the board mind you) and maybe its worth the horrendous price.
but what the hell where they thinking making this? ridiculous, simply ridiculous.

I'd imagine it was something along the lines of producing the final piece needed to ensure their Hobby Centres sold *everything* you would ever need for a game?

The price is high, you're right, and a little bird tells me the jump occured because of massive cock ups in the first few batches (which have been sent to stores as demos) pushing the price up.

And, at the end of the day, if you have the skill, time and space to make your own, this board being available in no way prevents you from doing so.

I don't see why not. The joy of owning your own production facilities (assuming they make this themselves. Other seem to think not.) is that you control supply.

Ergo, make enough to cover the cost of production, and wait for them to sell. If they sell quickly, hurrah, make some more. If they sell slowly, at least you don't end up with a minimum contracted amount sitting in your warehouse taking up space. From what I'd heard, Stores are being allocated them according to pre-orders, so there won't be any spare in the first instance,

I think there are a lot of people who were wondering what type of material the board is made from, especially considering some of the early GW terrain that was vacum-formed flimsy plastic.

This video shows off that the board is indeed made of sturdy material.

And if you're going to make a web video, making it (slightly) humorous is usually the way to go IMHO.
