How does the Inquisition deal with alpha levels?

If they can destroy armies in a single word and a titan in a single gesture, how do you move forces to them at a rate faster then they can kill?

I think they pretty much destroy themselves pretty quickly as well. Then it's just a run-of-the-mill "planet covered in daemons due to a huge gateway to warp" scenario.

Thoughts:
Unless the alpha level opens portals very far away from where they are, it takes a while to cover a planet in daemons. Daemons don't appear to have a way to move faster then a horse - so it'll take a couple of months. Poor guys on that planet - interesting battle though. Also perhaps time for giant orbital death bomb?
Are all the warp gates that they send GK in to kill small ones?

wikipedia suggests that the rulebook text may be imperial propaganda and the real power level of a psyker is to, for example, control 100s of men.
That would mean that epic/apocalypse scale alpha levels could actually be represented by rules.

welp..... id say if they can kill an army simply by thinking about it. all ya need to do is have enough armies going at one, so he cant think of killing all of them. solves yer problem

So instead of having one army, have alot of smaller groups of men connected by a single chain of command?
Thats still an army.

I figured the psyker would just explode and send tons of daemons flying everywhere. I just like the mental image.

Why would the Imperium need to make Alpha Level Psykers seem more powerful than they are?

To be fair, from what I've read in the past, Eldar even regard the Alpha Level Psykers with fear. Don't even ask me to cite this, because I cant remember where I read that. I do remember the Eldar Warlock mentioning the Alpha Level Psyker could laugh and crack the planets crust, cry and it would rain, and when angry could slaughter the worlds armies in a single stroke of a fist. So, it does seem the Imperium is so truly afraid of the beings, that they didn't need to embellish the power of the creatures. Their actual abilities were terrifying enough as is.

Just orbital bombard his jiggly bits off. A few battle barges should be enough to pulverize the entire planet enough to ensure you hit him/her. Long live the imperium and all that, but a few million casualties is fine when dealing with a threat like this.

one thing you have to remember about the inquisition,

basically nobody knows about them.

everyone has heard of the imperial guard, they go off an kill xenos. every one knows about the ecclesiarchy. some know about the super-human warriors known as the space marines. few still know that the entire place is ruled from a place called holy terra.

maybe a few million, in a galaxy of trillions and trillions, know about the inquisition. the are not ham-fisted agents that destroy planets on a whim. they are subtle and secretive, even amongst themselves.

how do the imperium deal with alpha level psykers? they go and have an inquisitor labotomise them (most of the time), because nobody knows that theyre comming. most dont even know they exist.

I am pretty sure SM, IG, and the Inquisition are all pretty well known about to the Citizens of the Imperium. I mean, SM are pretty much the Protectors of the Imperium and the Inquisition is a very major Branch of the Imperium.

I think it would be hard not to know about them.

An Alpha level pysker burns out pretty fast and most are found before they get to dangerous.
