When i heard there was going to be a series starring Jack Harkness from the doctor who series i went "hey should be cool"
the first episode sucked so did the second and the third and the last.

The producers screwed it i think

2nd Series is a vast improvment, especially with who doesn't make it to the end.

hell yeah my favourite part was when Gray got pissed with all the bad casting and shot pretty much everybody (and stabbed Jack)

Now now, avoid the spoilers!

2nd Season was just more mature in it's content, more tactical swearing than writing it because they could, and the same with the rumpy pumpy.

Torchwood has its ups and downs. The better episodes have been great -- Countrycide was brilliant -- and the worse ones have been fairly crap.

The doctor bloke (can't remember his name) became a much more interesting and sympathetic character after his experience near the end of series two.

IMO Russell T Davies has been allowed his head too much both with Dr Who and with Torchwood. He has some great ideas and he has really re-invigorated Dr Who, but he pushes the sexual agenda a bit hard at times in both shows.

I'd agree with that.

However, waiting for the third season with baited breath, though I think Thicky Mickey is in it, which is not a good thing. Don't like the character, don't like the actor.

I dunno...

Because it is a spin off and in my books those are always bad (the green, green grass is a prime example)

Spin-offs always run the risk of spreading the butter too thinly over too much toast.

Personally, I like the show and everything, I just get annoyed with the need to have every member of the team bang (or at least want to) every other member of the team, as well as other random people they meet. The idea of the show was to make it a more "mature" version of Dr Who, but simply adding a bunch of gratuitous sex doesn't really make it that.

Oh, and for a good spin off, what about Frasier?

The first series was patchy which I don't mind as it was their first attempt and only Cyberwoman and the finale were truly sub-par. The second series was truly awful with Owen becoming 'indestructible man' possibly its lowest point. Torchwood utterly failed at doing adult sci-fi.

its rpobably because it doesnt have that at home feel where you can go "what would i do if that happened"

but you cant, when they added Gwen they tried to give it a bit more of a normal feel, but the police are already a bit different from the audience.

It didn't help that none of the characters had back stories until they decided that they needed to kill some of them off and nobody would give a damn because we didn't know who they were.

True, they really should've been on the ball by the second series and they weren't. Perhaps this is why they're dropping their non-existant adult themes for the next series.

Overall I enjoyed Torchwood but it never became a "must watch" show for me.

I think the first series was much better than the second. I particularly enjoyed Countrycide because of its twist at the end which was very unexpected, as well as the "reason" why they were doing it said to the ex-copper woman whose name escapes me at this point.

I also liked the fairy episode, which I thought was nicely dark.

The Owen-Indestructible thing in series two was dire, as was the rest of it.
