Do they play all the "Classic" Christmas south of the equator? Mostly I wonder about "walking in a winter wonderland", "let it snow", "baby it's cold out side", etc. songs about snow and winter and such.

Considering its summer in your parts it would seems odd to play that kind of music.

They certainly do.

Mostly at the shops and occasionally on the lamer radio stations.

I don't venture out past the crocodiles and killer ants to visit other people's homes so I don't know if they play the music at their homes but we don't.

Is there any music that might not be played up here? something like:

"Walking on a beach, while those Yanks Freeze there balls off"

"let it be 45C and sunny"

"santa would rather water ski than ride in some lame ass sleigh"

There are some home grown ones like: The Carol of the Birds, The North Wind, Six White Boomers, Santa never made it into Darwin.

But they are uniformly lame and not hears outside of 'Aussie Christmas' CDs.

Santa is often pictured as an obese diabetic with heart failure sucking down an alcoholic beverage whilst getting a severe sunburn (and probably melanoma).... like this one.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

My least favourite thing about Christmas to date is jazz singers thumping out obnoxious Christmas-crap over mall radio.
Some Christmas songs are quite lovely in their original form - the religious side means nothing to me - but when a husky broad from Chigaco is belting a nice song through a carton of cigarettes, 50BPM over the original, with a dozen warbling backup singers, I just want to kill myself.

I'm from South-East Australia, where it's much colder in general. Now I live nearer Brisbane, the weather is terrible in my opinion too.

EDIT: Yes, they still specifically play 'Let It Snow,' and 'Baby It's Cold Outside'. At least they have air conditioning in shopping centres... but fake snow in shop windows? It's like a cruel, deliberate joke or something.

What about Kevin "Bloody" Wilson?
Is his song, "Tattoo of Santa" popular down there?

It's a kind of "touchy-feely" song (especially for KBW), but it fits in with the better known songs, as far as I'm concerned.

Kevin Wilson rocks! I found a bunch of his stuff on a computer on an oilfield construction vessel (talk about random!) off the coast of India, and loved it! He's got plenty of Christmas songs. I love "Wouldn't be Christmas without Snow", myself.

"You'll know Santa's comin when you hear him Ho Ho Ho!"

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. "The F***ing Cat's Back" was my favourite back when I thought he was funny... don't hear about him much these days.

If you're find you're actually fond of crude, politically incorrect humour in an Australian accent, look up 'Rodney Rude'. He's phenomenally offensive. Makes Kevin look like a nancy. Just don't expect any Christmas sentiments.

Edit: Not trying to be rude I've just never thought about this and so I really want to know.

Part of the Queen Victoria Building Christmas tree.

The tree is about 4 storeys high and is covered in 15,000 Swarovski crystals, 40,000 lights, 8,000 baubles, 400 bows and 3,700 branches.

It took only three nights to assemble the tree.

Down in Southern NSW at home we'd have long-needle pines I guess. It all looks like store-bought plastic up here toward the sub-tropics. But all of the commercialism is here - the big difference is that it's bloody hot. Reindeer imagery is sometimes replaced by antlered kangaroos (which we also ride to work). Lots of people in cities light candles and sing around a big tree on Christmas eve - same thing happened in my smallish hometown, so I guess that's a fairly popular thing. Recently the candles seem to have been replaced by glow-sticks... Like I said, it's the neck of summer right now, and we usually have a good bushfire disaster or two around the New Year... depending on if anything has grown back yet.

As far as Santa drinking a 'grily cocktail' goes, I'm pretty sure the daiquiri was invented by an American miner or something. Fruit daiquiris are kind of popular in the north. Booze, fruit juice, ice. We actually enjoy fresh food in this country

Note that American stereotypes for the 'South' are reversed in this hemisphere.

KBW cracks me up. It's not that I LIKE politically incorrect humor... it's that I don't mind it. If it's intelligently and charismatically done (like the song "Craig Christ" by... err... I forget), it amuses me.
TBH, if the quote you inserted is from "Rodney Rude," he sounds like the exact kind of guy I wouldn't like.

Good to hear.
Last night I discovered that my roomates, both professional musicians, don't know who KBW or RR are. Very confusing, but I guess I'm from the same end of the country as those established performers, whereas my roommates are from Queensland - a state that has 'The Smart State' printed on their license plates.

EDIT: Just listened to Wilson for the first time since I was about fourteen. Not as funny now... Christmas ones seemed better.
