I saw pics of this Genestealer Cult army and was wondering what the deal was. The tournament rules don't seem hve a way to pull off this mix without massively messing with counts-as: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/downloadAttach/10416.page

Counted as orks.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

The deal was:

Patriarch = Warboss
Magus = Big Mek
Hybrids = Boyz
Hybrids with heavy weapons = Lootas
Purestrains = Kommandos
Tanks = Battlewagons
Buggies = Buggies

Thanks for the explanation!

Wow, and I thought I was going to have trouble with folks "getting" my Tzeench Demon army using Guard for horrors, Penitent Engines for Soul Grinders, etc (just a concept so far)...

This guy had to explain that an I7, rending, etc model is actually an I2, pistol-packing model.

I mean, it is a BEAUTIFUL army, but it would be easier to use the Tyranid Codex and call Guard = Gaunts, Tyrant or Broodlord = Patriarch, Zoantrope = Magus...

Well, I'm the owner. After you "get" that a Hybrid = Boy (and that's a fairly good match), you're mostly there, since that's the majority of the army. None of my opponents had an issue with the army, and I did ask them.

The Kommandos are the most forced fit, but also consider they're infiltrators with move through cover led by a master infiltrator (Snikrot/Broodlord). There are more parallels there than at first blush.

Using the Tyranid codex, the Genestealers would "line up", but now your Brood Brothers would be fleet, I4 humans, and you'd be unable to field any vehicles. With the IG codex, you have the Brood Brothers and vehicles covered, but you'd run into problems repping the Purestrains, Patriarch, etc.

There are no perfect fits because rules for the army don't exist anymore, and the defacto counts as list (LatD) is gone too. It's a different thing than taking an entire army of current models and calling them something else. That can run you afoul of GT rules.

Counts as orks is a popular solution to the problems faced by creative modelers anyways. You get to play with the army you like, and have a chance in the main event as well.

I'm speaking from experience here as my Kroot army was also of course: counts as Orks.

Gorgon, I'm still upset about you stealing my idea and doing it a year ahead of me!!

I just wish that mine looked as good as yours!

@gorgon: Well brilliantly done! I was struggling myself with trying to put tyranid growths on sentinels so make them counts-as carnifexes. My modeling skills aren't nearly there and the game changed before I ever got it off the ground. And there is also the problem with turning a vehicle into a monstrous creature... Heh, and then Deamons came out and GW did it anyway.

@Moz: I loved those Kroot. They are like the perfect counts-as race due to that eat-and-morph thing they have going.

Cheers!

Don, I was just lucky to beat you (and probably others) to the punch. The idea of GCults as Orks was out there, and I definitely didn't own it.

And Moz is right...Orks are probably the best all-around counts as choice due to their flexibility. Aren't too many basic builds you can't do with that codex.

the cult I've been trying uses tyranid list.

Vehicles ain't a massive problem as I use barbed strangler carnifexes as looted leman russ tanks.

I just explain before the game that I won't be using them to climb buildings or strike back in combat.

no limo's though
