Hey gang, In between tons of painting (shameless plug for my
P&M Blog) I got in a 1750 game with my greenskinned buddy Kevin Nash. He played a slightly tweaked version of his current tourney list, and I played my current 'competitive' space marine list.
I used my roommates dark angels, which are painted by WolfLordKejl. He really did some sick freehand stuff on all the vehicles, I'll get an army profile up soon for them so more people can marvel at WolfLord's kick-assness. Anyhoo, for the purposes of tonight's game, the dark angels have become "the angels of darkness"
Here are the lists...

Ok, mission was Capture and Control, deployment was Pitched Battle. The Space Marines won the roll and chose to go first.
I deployed thusly...
The Orks then deployed in response...
Not a great picture... Lemme help by describing some of the fuzzy bits. From bottom to top, the green objective marker is surronded by a 30x ork boyz unit, that little building is holding 15x Lootas led by a Shokk Attack Gun Big Mek, the 9x Kannons and the remaining 50x Ork Boyz are all intermingled in the middle and the other building holds 15x more Lootas led by the other
SAG Mek.
The orks are not so fast, and fail to seize the initiative from the space marines.
TURN 1
The bodies of countless fusiliers lay ragged and bloody in the wide street. The Vostroyan 56th had sent wave after wave, leaving the safety of the buildings to cross into the ork held north side. The orks held their position with ruthless tenacity. Their deranged mekaniacs had lined the rooftops with 'boys' equipped with their bizarre yet deadly contraptions. Throngs of gretchin manned batteries of artillery. Their seemingly limitless supply of shells streaming in from the manufactorum complex two clicks north.
"The street must be crossed. The manufactorum must be liberated." Grand Master Azrael said. "Yes, Grand Master" came the response from Interrogator-Chaplain Timaeus. "The Inner Circle and the armory are at your disposal Chaplain, do not fail."
The Space Marines heroically drive forward into the heart of the ork lines. Both Land Raiders move forward 12" and one Vindicator moves up 6", the other stays tucked away behind the
LRs and goes a full 12". Both rhinos zip towards the objective. Each carrying a squad sergeant and a meltagunner. The missile launcher combat squad near the objective steps forward to take up cover. The two land raiders and one of the missile launchers land hits on the big gunz units, killing 3 of the 9 guns. The vindicators aim is true, killing 4 ork boyz.
The ork boyz move forward and prepare to receive the space marine charge. The 30 ork unit protecting the objective scoots back a bit to get out of charge range. The ork shooting is especially nasty. The kannons destroy one vindicator and crew shake the other. One Loota unit opens fire on the combat squad nearest the objective and kills 2, that unit fails its morale check and falls back. The other Loota unit explodes a rhino, killing 2 passengers, the remaining three pass their pin test only to fail the subsequent morale check, they high-tail it off of the table.
TURN 2
The Land Raider 'Caliban's Blade' rocked as shell after shell impacted against its ceramite hull. Interrogator Chaplain Timaeus' voice filled the ears of the Deathwing. Reciting the Litanies of Hate, the Chaplain stirred the blood of all of his battle brothers.
Their transport slowed as supporting Vindicator tanks came into range of the buildings across the wide street. demolisher shells levelled entire floors, spilling out orks like green blood. The land raider assault vehicles then dashed towards the breach, disgorging its bone colored passengers. "It is time to kill brothers!" and the terminators set about their bloody work.
I shot some more into the Kannons, killing 3 more of the big gunz, leaving only a single unit of 3 alive.
The Land Raiders drive up and dump out their passengers. I was very careful about how I debarked here. As an ork player I am intimatey familiar with how their morale works. In order for me to get the maximum output of wounds, I needed to make this charge a "double/double" I also needed to engage the power klaw nob with a model other than the chaplain, and get the chaplain into base to base contact. As you can see in the picture I was able to check off all those goals. Let's see the casualties shall we?
Because I was able to win big while engaging BOTH units, the combat result ended up with each unit taking 11 more armor saves. So in total, the charge of my two terminator units caused 30 casualties.
The orks half of the turn wasn't all that good. The Lootas and
SAG fired at a combat squad that was running from its original placement to the objective, but were only able to account for 1 casualty, thanks to some bad rolling and bad scattering. The Kannons also shot into that unit but weren't able to cause any wounds. The 20x ork boyz unit made a dash for the safety of the building across no man's land in an effort to put some pressure on my objective.
The large terminator combat was broken open wit both the Lootas and the Shoota boy units failing their morale checks. Both were well under half strength and wouldn't be regrouping.
TURN 3
The chaplain was in a sea of carnage. His deathwing squad was a tornado of death. The orks had met their assault and now reinforcements were pouring in. Brother Mattias was pulled down and disappeared under a press of green mass. Brother Tobiah was soon separated from him as well.
"Request immediate aid. Ork infiltrators have emerged from the sewers and are overrunning our positions." Came the call from brother sergeant Nereus. With a glance the chaplain communicated for the other squad of terminators to respond to the distress call.
"This victory rests with us Brothers." Timaeus said to the two terminators at his side, and they plunged deeper into the mass of bodies.
At this point in the game the marines can sense victory, formulate a plan and go for it. I moved one land raider over to set up a turn 5 tank shock objective block.
I embarked on the other land raider with one of my terminator units that had 3 models left. that land raider moved forward to threaten the 20x ork boyz unit. The terminator unit with the chaplain moved as far as it could to try and reach the 20x ork boyz unit for a charge, but once they had moved it was pretty clear that they wouldn't reach. They charged the remaining 3 kannons and killed off all of the grot crew members. I moved my rhino as far as I could without exposing it to Loota fire, unfortunately I wasn't able to move more than 6" and if Snikrot showed up he would be able to hit it on 4s. I moved my vindicator that had fallen back to support my objective out to take a shot at the 20x boys units and killed a model with the shot.
On the ork turn, the 20x ork boyz unit shot and charged the chaplains unit, taking it down to two models. The terminators held their ground.
Cue "Jaws" theme... Boss Snikrot and pals showed up right on time, they set themselves up beautifully for a dual charge on the rhino and the now 4 strong combat squad that was moving to reinforce the objective. Snikrot managed to immobilize and weapon destroy the rhino and one of his pals got a crew stunned on it as well. I was unable to cause any casualties and they killed 2 marines.
This was a pretty pivotal moment. At first I assumed that I had lost combat by 5. 2 for the dead marines and 3 for the 3 damage results on the rhino. Just for laughs I went to the rulebook and got to page 63. It says "...the result of the fight is worked out as normal against the latter (referencing 'other unit types'), ignoring the vehicles." I wasn't satisfied with that because I remembered something about the damage table and combat resolution... I found it on page 73 "Each roll made on the Vehicle Damage table against a walker counts as a single wound..." So that meant I had only lost by 2. So my leadership of 8 minus 2 for the combat resolution minus another 1 for Snikrots special rule meant I needed a 5. I nailed it on a 5. That pinned Snikrots unit in place and gave my land raider mounted terminators the charge. Which was a backbreaking turn of events for the orks.
TURN 4
"Firebase secure. The ork guns are growing quiet Interrogator Chaplain." Brother Sergeant Nereus communicated. But the Chaplain did not respond. The sergeant could see that the orks were abandoning their cover in order to try to press into the melee that was taking place below them. They seemed magnetized to the tiny specs of white, thrashing and crushing limbs.
"Colonel Kabazov.... prepare your men for a charge. Fix bayonets!" The Colonel might take exception to being ordered around by a mere sergeant, but it was time to act. And opening has been earned in blood.
I moved my loaded land raider back to set up the charge. The combat squad in the rhino just stayed hunkered down inside, hoping that Snikrot wouldn't peel it open and eat them. the vindicator moved over 6" and formed a wall so that a consolidating kommando unit couldn't reach the 3 strong combat squad that had regrouped and was now hiding on the objective.
I had no shooting and so we fought the combats. My brave chaplain and his terminator squad were finally felled by the 20x ork boyz unit, and my charging terminators did not do that well. They lost one on the charge, and the combat squad was again unable to wound. They did manage to win the combat by 1 however, and another Kommando died.
The orks turn began with the ork boyz unit making a break for my objective. The
SAG mek tried for a hail mary on the land raider but only rolled a 7 strength. The power klaw nob in his scoring unit was able to hit but not damage the land raider that was about to block his unit.
Last chance for my terminators who were trying to rescue my combat squads. I lose another terminator before I get to swing, and my combat squad failed to hurt any orks again. As luck would have it my lone terminator sergeant hit twice and wounded twice! I won combat by 1, the kommandos were down to 9 models, needing an 8 to hold, they rolled a 9. With no bosspole, the unit was doomed to run. The combat squad finally proved effective in sweeping advancing the kommandos! Victory is near!
TURN 5
The tattered remnants of the Vostroyan 56th Fusiliers screamed a war cry as they charged the street that so many had died trying to cross. But their was no hail of deadly fire. No artillery shells to pin them down, no blasts of strange warp energy. As they reached the fray, they buried their bayonets into the backs of the orks and fired bursts at point blank range. it was wholesale slaughter. The horde of orks were still trying to get to grips with the deathwing terminators, and were being decimated in the process.
it didn't take long for the horde to break and flee.
"Keep after them men! They are routed! Don't let a single ork live!" Shouted the Vostroyan Colonel. As the tide or ork bodies receded away into the city, he could see giant terminator armor-clad men. With their armor dented and burned, they limped forward, heading towards a black figure.
Their stood Interrogator-Chaplain Timaeus, wrenching his Crozius free from the skull of a monstrous Ork. As he saw the Colonel, the Chaplain released the hilt of his weapon moentarily, bowed and pressed the sign of the aquila against his chest.
Colonel Kabazov shuddered.
My 3 remaining combat squads all find good hiding spots near the objective and the lone terminator sergeant strikes a heroic pose on my table side. The Land Raider performs his tank shock successfully.
The
SAG mek and the power klaw nob both fail to hurt the blocking
LR.
Kevin Nash picks up a die and throws it. '2'. I get a solid victory by blocking his objective and securing my own.
Alright! It's good to get a VERY convincing win against Kevin Nash's tourney list. It normally just tears me up, and he is carrying a pretty impressive W/L ratio amongst Spure Posse games.
I was going to put some "lessons learned" and some "things I like/don't like" at the end of this batrep, but its already too long. I'll post thoughts after some replies come in.
Thanks for reading!
