Lizardmen were my first Warhammer Army. Ever.
I started them in early 6th Edition, probably a while after their army book was released (I really don't know, I'm guessing here). I collected about 3,000 points, but my horrible tactics prohibited me from actually winning games. I dropped the army when the new Wood Elves were released, partly because I liked the new models and partly because they were a new thing for most of my friends. Since that day, I have gone through a circuit of different armies, from Night Goblins to Vampire Counts. However, through the entire thing, the Lizardmen have always been the love of my life. I kept telling myself that 'someday I'll get back to that army,' but I never did, and could never find the time to. The upcoming release of the new Lizardmen Army is the perfect chance to do this, and I mean perfect. Many of the new models are beautiful (juries' still out on those Terradon's, bu oh well), and when I saw the new Temple Guard, my eyes went .
Anyway, with my new Lizardmen models waiting to be shipped at some GW warehouse, I find myself pulling out my old models to spruce them up for the new army book.

If you actually read that you must be bored witless, so here are some pics.

This is my first test Saurus. He was an old model I had lying around who happened to not be painted, so I took the chance to paint him. Actually, he is the last of three attempts, and the only one I like. He is basically a repainting of my original color scheme with a little more emphasis on the scales and much better quality.

Anyway, stay tuned. More will probably come soon enough.

looks like a pretty solid colour scheme, and works well, cant wait for more

and being a lizardmen player myself and being away for ages, cant wait to see some of the new stuff.

Really solid scheme looks ace, however as a Lizardman player do you not feel a little cheated that they started calling characters names like TicTak'To?

Looking good so far. It's amazing how your 'one true love' in gaming is usually the one you return to. I guess it's because that's the one race that struck the biggest chord with you and as such it probably always will...

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

I do indeed feel cheated. A race as old and powerful as the Lizardmen (heck, they helped create the world!) is really not one to be made fun of. Leave names like that to the Orcs and Gobbos, I really want my SCs to have an air of power about them, look at Chakax!
Sure, TicTak'To is a great, unofficial name for someone's army, I even have Priest called Itzy, but not a special character.

Couldn't agree more! I would say, the names shouldn't be funny for the Orks and Gobbos either. There's enough humour just in the race construct, without resorting to calling them daft things that make you sound like a numpty whenever you say them to someone!

Great colour scheme, those Saurus look brilliant.

I love the detail work, especially the weapons and the eyes. Looking forward to seeing more

I have a big commission I'm working on, so I have to try to fit work on my lizards in breaks I'm taking between painting massive numbers of greenskinned brutes.

These are some Terradon WIPs that I've been working on from my old Terradons. I thought that with their new 'Arboreal Predator' rule it would be cool to have some models flying in and around trees.

The base of one of the Terradons.

The models' going to go on something like that.

Another model flying through trees. Unfortunately I'm going to have to get a base for this one...

I got the shield on my 'Testasaurus.'

liking the ideas so far

i think i may "borrow" that terradon idea, since they are far too top heavy on flying bases XD

and yea, testasaurus sounds painful, you can keep that.

Go ahead and borrow it, it's not patented or anything...
Or is it?

Another little update:
Began work on some unit-champions:
This is for my Skink Skirmishers. He's sneaking through some trees, ready to ambush some poor, Chaos-worshiping soul.

With weapons:

And this is for my Saurus. He's an old model I used as a Scar-Veteran in my old model. Sorry for the horrible picture, you can actually see a better one in the corner of the picture in my last post.

This is going to be his base. It actually was the old model's base too, with some added GS roots and painted better.

very nice detail on base
and locing the poses / basing ideas.
just a quick Q: how many points worth are you painting up roughly?

February 6th, and according to a GW newsletter the release of the Lizardmen (although I thought it was the 7th). Of course, that does not mean I have actually received my models...

Anyway, JD, the simple answer to your question I 'I have no idea.' I think I'll paint until I get bored, and until my new models arrive that's capped at around 500 points. I don't think I'll be working on any other projects any time soon.

Well, another quick update: I've worked a little more on my Saurus, finishing another model and my Spawing Champion. I have better pictures of all of them now:
The original 'Testasaurus'

The other completed Saurus

And the completed champion.

Have fun.

To be fair, they've been naming Lizardmen Special Characters like that since the army was created. Tenehuan's(SP?) name used to actually be Tinihuini(yes, seriously). It was really only the last edition's book that tried to make them a bit more serious with regards to naming conventions.

So, the silly names are more historical for Lizardmen than "serious" names.

If I can find my 5th edition book for them, I'll give you more(worse) examples on how they didn't "start" naming characters like this, but in fact simply returned to a time honored GW tradition.

Kroak had the exact same name in older editions.
