Hi everyone, just got into the 40K gaming with my 12 year old son, he's the gamer, I'm the modeler and painter and I'm really enjoying it. Stumbled across this great site and thought I'd join up.
Hope to get some painting and modelling tips and tricks and maybe learn how to play myself, even though I'm ancient ... LOL

Well, initially we or I

bought the Black Reach set with the Orks and Ultramarines. My son wants to play the Space Marines and I have ordered a few more poeces of Ebay to round out his army which leaves me the Orks, which I am having a ton of fun painting so far. It's a slow process and I thought I was actually doin' pretty good ... until I looked at some of the stuff here ... all I can say is Wow, there are some talented folk around enjoying this hobby, that's for sure but I think my boy will be able to field a fairly decent Ultramarine army for a rookie and he'll be happy, which makes me smile too.

LOL, don't worry about the quality of your paintjobs. :-)

There are those of us who play. Those who paint. Those who love converting models.
And those who do all three.

Skill in all aspects can vary widely. My own painting and converting skills are just so-so
but I'm mainly here to play. And yeah, a lot of the paintjobs and converted figures shown
here just blow my mind.

I'm sort of a newbie again, just now returning to 40k after a long absence and have to relearn
the game for 5th edition. I played Space Marines mostly and fooled around with dark Eldar and
Imperial Guard. Now I'm back and going to be playing Orks exclusively as I always had a lot
of fun with them as my Warhamer Fantasy army.

You and your son are going to have a blast and might I suggest buying a second box set of
AoBR to double up both your armies very cheaply? You just can't beat the price of the starter
for all the basic troops and goodies inside.

Nah, I dont actually, but i think its really cool of you to get into something with your son. As you will see, 40k has alot to offer, books, gaming, art....its really a great game and im glad i got into it. hope you enjoy the site, and good luck with those orks!

my bro was once just a painter untill he got orks then i smashed him but it was orks so it was funny even for him lol
