Clinton goes to Indonesia to talk up relations… has what to do with a shoe being thrown at a President. It’s not just a case of pretending not to see a particularly contrived or obtuse link, I just can’t see any link at all.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I think he found this quote and conflated it with the bush incident:
"Her message was received warmly by officials in Jakarta, the childhood home of President Barack Obama, although small and scattered protests were held in several cities, with some Islamic hard-liners setting tires on fire and others throwing shoes at caricatures of Clinton."
Which, of course, is completely ridiculous. The Bush event was an amazing moment - one of the last attempted PR events for the president involving a protest most in the west had ever even heard of. It was filmed, and a perfect photo op, and actually involved the president, not some jokers and a caricature on the outskirts of town.
Sometimes events are a big deal...because they're a big deal. Other times they're a big deal because they're exciting/interesting/bizzare, which is what the shoe throwing fits under (it may also be a "big deal" on it's own, but obviously not to both sides).
To compare that to this is the absolute worst. People who do this are so desperate to try to find some evidence that the media is biased that they'll seriously pick out the most ridiculous things and say "see? see?" and then just use your incredulity as MORE "evidence" for their stance.

Why in gods name would Shoe getting thrown at Bush be the same as small protests against a Clinton visit?
She's not president
No shoes were thrown at her
There are always protests
Even if the media is biased (of course it is, every media source is biased in some direction - hello Fox News.) this event isn't proof, it's not even vaguely decent evidence. It makes you look like you're grasping at straws. If the media is so biased I'm sure you can find good examples, there's no reason to bring up this non-example. It just makes it harder to believe any legitimate claims of bias. You've heard of the boy who cried wolf right?

Yeh this kind of thing happens all the time, it's not in the news for the same reason they don't report every car crash. Not because they're bias on this particular subject.

So are you arguing that the shoe thrown at Bush shouldn't have been in the news, or that minor protests in the general vincinity of Clinton should be a lead in story to the nightly news?

What ? The Pope's against abortion !!! And he mentioned this when he met a politician from a country that allows it ? Wow! This must be the first time a Pope has ever said anything at all on this subject.
And....it's news when people protest a visit by an American politician ? Really ?

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Yeah this is not news, simply because it's too mundane.
It's not a bias thing in this instance.
