Mannahnin wrote:A lot of folks online (and in emails in other parts of life) use pretty mangled English. The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Self defense is nice, but it isn't what the second amendment was written for. Not this kind of self defense anyway.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

The second amendment was put into the constitution for 2 reasons. The first was so that the country could have a citizen militia around that it could mobilize in times of war. This would allow military reserves to be pulled up relatively quickly and they would already have some weapons and training. This would allow the country to save time, effort and money by minimizing the need for a large standing military. The second reason was to set up a country where it would be difficult for the government to dominate the populace though military might. Marching troops in on unarmed civilians is fairly easy but trying to dominate an armed populace via violence turns into a big mess very quickly. Since Britain generally tried to maintain control of the colonies this way, people wanted to feel that they had the ability to defend themselves from outside invasion.

These days, people invoke it for very different reasons and unfortunately things are no longer working the way the original writers intended.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.
