I got a new box of chaos marines in the mail and I'm putting them together (as we speak) and among the ten marines are a icon bearer and a champion. until now I never had to choose a god for my army but now I do for the icon bearer and the ten marines. I have been reading the codex but am still not sure. Help me decide ladies and lads buy giving me your advice as to which chaos god you have chosen and why.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Depends what youre looking for...

Khorne is the bloodthirsty God of Blood... battle... war.. etc

Tzeentch is the changer of ways. Fate/scheming/magic etc

Nurgle is fat. Lord of Flies (no relation to the book, haha), disease and death

Slaanesh is the God of excess. Experiences... and most of all... COMBAT DRUGS WOOOOOOO *spins around in circles*

Each God has their own play style but work best in conjunction with each other. You can also select simple Undivided (or Chaos Glory) if you so desire. Check out the Lexicanum (google it) and search for the Chaos Gods to learn more about them.

Welcome to the winning side

Thanks fellas. Actually it's kind of funny but I was leaning toward Khorne in the first place and I think you guys kind of sealed it for me.

Basic marines with a Mark of Khorne are pretty nasty.

They can shred orks like no other.

Cool, I have a set of marines that came with the black reach set. I was going to convert them over but now I have a direction to go in.

That's the blessing and the problem with this game. Too many choices. Someone like me can't take it. LOL!!

I find going for the Berzerkers a better choice than just normal CSM with the Icon of Khorne. For my Khornate army I'll be using the CSM models as Berzerkers (painted suitably, of course). I don't like the old and ugly 'zerker models and the Forge World upgrade is far too expensive (but looks soooo awesome!).

I may have to start a Tzeentch army on the basis that i have never actually seen one being played. Khorne and Nurgle seem to occupy 90% of all CSM forces i play against, with the other 10% being Slaanesh. Although i guess Tzeentch could be occupying another realm of hidden percentages.

Are the Tzeentch options really that bad?

The eye of terror.

I play Black Legion, so my different units are free to follow whichever Chaos God they wish. Just because lots of people think the only way to play "fluffy" chaos is to choose a single god and stick with it, it's not your only option.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

A Tzeentch list is something I've wanted to do (again) for a long time, but the problem is they are absolute garbage against horde armies... and if you have any Thousand Sons (which you will), they are just as garbage in melee (since they are the only troop type that doesnt have 2 attacks via bolt pistol and close combat weapon). I've already got the fluff for my non-existent Tzeentch army and everything... just need a solid list

Keep in mind that Khorne can include the 'master tactician' along with the usual raving berserkers. It's not an aspect GW really pushes, but might be interesting to explore, especially for converted AOBR Space Marines. I could see a lot of Space Marines falling under Khorne's sway due to seeking to be the best at battle.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Boy, still a good argument for Khorne.

The thing that turned me off to Tzeentch was it seemed so limiting and heavy on the "must be bla, bla, and can't have bla, bla" I like things a little freer than that.

Besides, my memory can't keep up with that any more.

Go with Nurgle!!!! His units are almost impervious to most weapons, His units look awesome and if your opponent pukes after seeing any of your conversions you win by default

Someone should write a book about a berserker.

It could be interesting. Something besides "I kill people, and decided I really like killing people, and now I wAnt 2 kil ever1 gaghararagh RIP AND TEAR YOUR GUTS!!!!!"

Ok. I think I'm going to paint my regular space marines as world eaters (with the mark of Khrone) and make them renegade, or do I have to paint them there regular colors and then mod them from there?

Still can't find the full size, hi res version... :(

To your question of painting and modding, it seems most people do all their cult marines as the big legion they came from (berserkers are always World Eaters, etc) which sometimes makes sense.
I think though that it would work just as well to have a cohesive army look, then just make slight modifications to the cult troops to show their dedication, like a different shoulder pad and helmet or something.

It sort of boils down to how you want your army represented:
An ad hoc war band with lots of different independant units with low cohesion could have different colors for each group or unit even and look ok.
Alternately, your lord could command a more tightly knit army and demand his followers change their colors to match his heraldry, with room for deviation, but much less.

Either could be cool if you do it right.
