What do people think of this series? I had AW 1+2 on the GBA, and I play them on my emulator a lot, but I never got my hands on a DS, so no Dual Strike or Days of Ruin for me.

AW 2: Black Hole Rising was awesome. I was a bit disappointed at what you get for finishing the Black Hole campaign, because Sturm is overpowered cheese and Adder is a weakass poofter. The other COs you unlock are pretty cool though and Sturm is still fun to use.

I also noticed that the campaign AI is ridiculously good. It took me forever to beat Hawke with an S-Rank on the Green Earth campaign. Some of the CO powers are just abusive.

Still, it's a great series that I still have fun with nowadays.

I have all four games. I have never completed the campaign mode on DoR (the name is different in the UK) because I got stuck on one level and just got bored with it.

I have played more AW than any other game ever except maybe Nobunaga's Ambition (original Gameboy.)

IMO the original game was so good that it was difficult to improve. It needed a couple of tweaks -- the AA tank was too good against other units originally -- but a lot of the changes have been for the sake of change, rather than major improvements. The walking tank was stupid, for example.

I like the two-stage CO power.

If they ever do another version of the game, what it needs above everything is more maps.

Look closely at the 'walking' tank. It does have wheels, they're just on goofy legs.

I agree that the first game was quite hard to improve on. The game was quite balanced, but AW2's power system was way cooler. Sturm's power made my laugh;
Sturm's Super CO power is so powerful that he doesn't need a normal CO power.

The new COs were a lot of fun. Colin was overpowered, and Hawke was basically Drake without the awesome navy, but the rest of them were great to experiment with.

The walking tank with little wheels just wasn't enough better than the standard medium tank to justify the increased cost. It also looked silly.

In the fourth game, the medium tank was reduced in effectiveness to the point where it isn't usually worth taking over a light tank, or upgrading to a mega tank. In the first game, the light and medium tanks were nicely balanced, while the AA tank was probably a bit too powerful and got toned down in later versions.

The AA tank wasn't that powerful, only 25% damage to tanks with no defence, it was only really good against aircraft (duh) and infantry.

The walking tank with wheels was plenty powerful. It rapes everything except ships and stuff it can't hit.

Advance wars is amazing. I'm stuck on the last level for DoR though.

I didn't like the lack of officers for use in DoR and much preferred Dual Strike on the DS.

I know what you mean. It took me ages to beat Sturm on the last mission. In the end, I had to use a suicide rush of a dozen bombers to finish it.

Oh yeah, Advanced wars. good memories. I feel bad for anyone who cant get their hands on a DS, DS and DoR are so good. DS really adds another level of play and fun. The feeling of smacking the enemy with 2 level tens with skills duel striking is just mind numbing.

Hello, my name is cheese.

I mean the ability to heal everything in his command radius and he chooses a freakin fighter and has like a 4-5 space radius. I hate him, I hate him, I hate him. So far I've only gotten him down to 1 remaing laser.

I don't see why he's be so hard. Andy can heal everything and Eagle has uber-fighters.

Because andy, eagle, and everyone else isn't in this one. Its a completely new cast of characters.

they are very good. I find the new one extremely challenging for a ds game.

That really sucks. Even more so than killing off Sturm at the end of AW2. How I miss his Darth Vader imitation.

Dual Strike was my first intro into the series, but I found the games completely revolved around getting two turns together (3 with Eagle).

Dark Reign, I have almost finished but for the last mission which is said to be near impossible. I saw a walkthrough which said you have to finish within like 10 turns or you will get swamped. Needless to say I never bothered trying.

I do wish they made a 40k version of it though.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

A 40k, or any license of this game would be cool. I played Dual Strike until I got bored of it, cool game. I remember the new tanks in Dark Reign sounded cool.

Can someone explain how the Dual Strike power works? Does it combine two CO powers or something?

Also: in DS, are there still normal and super CO powers? And why is Olaf old?

As far as I can remember; you just wait until both COs are fully charged and then you active them.
Then you get to take two turns, one for each CO while their power is active.

If you are playing with Eagle as the active CO, you should wait until after all your dudes have moved before activating the Dual Strike as he refreshes all your dudes Action points and you essentially get 3 turns!

I have no idea about Olaf.
