I'm just getting back into 40k and played my first game in 5 years last weekend. I'm still using the older SM Codex (waiting for the Space Wolf codex to be released so I don't plan on buying the latest SM Codex). A couple of things came up that we couldn't remember how to resolve;

1) What are the current rules for Space Marines that lose 50% of their unit to shooting? Do they check for morale? If they fail, do they retreat or is there a special "shaken" rule that allows them to roll again at some point? I believe they wrote an addendum for the SM Codex but I couldn't find anything.

2) Can a SM model have two lightning claws PLUS a bolt pistol?

3) Are shuriken catapults irrelevent now that bolters and lasguns can also shoot twice on the move? The fact that eldar guardians can shoot then charge the enemy doesn't seem like a good trade-off for losing their unique ROF from previous versions of the game. This isn't really a question, just trying to figure out the strategy implications. ie. WTF were they thinking?

I can't think of the other questions at the moment, but I'd appreciate any answers on the first two questions. Thanks!

Might want to buy that new marine codex, after all, who knows how many items will say "refer to Marine codex for details" or some variant thereof.

As for your questions:
1. Answered in the new Marine codex
2. Answered in the new Marine codex

3. Not a rules question, so who knows

Well, once I know if the SW Codex is stand-alone or dependent on the SM Codex then I'll make a decision whether to buy the SM Codex.

But, er, thanks for taking the time to confirm that answers exist to my questions.

Anytime.

Once you've read the rules let us know if you still have questiins on how they apply or work. Those kinds of questions we can answer. Straight "what are the rules" questions we cannot answer. Something about GW IP and not getting Dakka shut down............

The Wolf 'dex will be standalone. GW is moving away from the old 3rd ed format of base codex + expansion and making everything a separate codex.
However, if you want to use the current Space Wolf codex until the update comes out later this year, you'll need the newer SM codex.

1: You take morale checks only in 3 situation-PAGE 44 in the General Rules

A-in a shooting phase you have 25% losses ( EG in a 10 ment squad they die 4)

B-Tank shock

C-Losing an assault(when the number of wounds inflicted by your side is smaller that the attacker EG: in a 10 men squad SM Vs 10 Bloodleters.
The SM kill 3 Blodletter and the BLD kill 5 SM as a result you have 5 SM and there are 7 BLD-you loose the fight by -2 wounds. When you take the Morale Check you will take to ypur Leadership but for every wound you will drop a point.EG : SM Leadership 8 - 2 =6.Take the Test to LD 6

Usually units retreat 2D6(infantery) but if they have the Fearless rule they do not retrat but take 2 wound(with armour save)

In this case the SM if they retreat the have the :"And they shall know no fear" witch means they they can fall back but if they are cought in sweepin adv.they are subject to No retreat! rule---witch means the will be fearless-but if they do (in this case) the SM will take 2 wound witch they can save

Hope you understood a bit

2.No he can not! 2 lightning claws and maybe some auxiliary weapons(like aux missle launcher)

3.___________
