Pipe Dream: a fantastic but vain hope (from fantasies induced by the opium pipe)

Weird opening comment I know but let me enlarge on this statement.

Over the years on this board I've seen & posted on plenty of posts about GW stuff that hacks us off. The lastest thing is GW's attitude to resellers and the dodgy battlescape scenery. My Pipe Dream is that the wargaming community actually gets together and tells GW that enough is enough.

Most of us don't have a problem with GW making money and understand that running a business costs money, we're not stupid. Most of us also think that the products that GW produce and really good. However surely it's time to try and make GW stop and remember that they can't take us for granted? I'd also like to add that as a long time wargamer, I'm not looking to see GW fail. They do have a good product and I have enjoyed playing it.

Areas I think that GW fails us.

Codexes

These take far too long to come out and then usually end up breaking an army or making them too powerful to filed against other forces.

Ruleset

Come on, how hard would it be to produce a basic set and an advanced set & keep the FAQ's upto date?

Pricing

Stop ripping us off. Pricing a model on what roll it plays in an army is wrong, end of. Adding all those little "custom" extras to box set isn't value, it's just annoying. Most of it gets thrown or stuck in a bits box. Plenty of other gaming company's produce metal and plastic 28mm models at a cheaper price and they don't have the raw material buying power of GW.

Resellers

Stop persecuting them. If they only want to make 5% profit on an item, then that's up to them, it's not affecting the GW cost price to the reseller.

As an aside to this, our local indie reseller, who sells via the web, at our club, local clubs & shows, has stopped selling GW products due to GW being arse's. Now they don't have a shop and can give good deals, they are also at our club every Monday, they demo and visit local gaming clubs, as well as take part in plenty of shows. Which in my mind is what a reseller should be doing.

So my Pipe Dream? Create an online petiton telling GW what we think and want. Also stop buying from them, fullstop, even the resellers. Finish off the stuff you have and play with that. I would imagine that after a couple of months of low direct sales and the resellers giving them grief they may start to listen.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

It's an amazing idea, but the unfortunate part is that we can't have enough people with the willpower to do that. However, I hope you've posted this elsewhere, too, because I'm convinced. I bet it won't do much, but it's worth a try. Just let me buy Black Reach this afternoon first, I need something to play with for the next 4 months.

Pipe dream: HBMC/Grim.Badger's idea of a single sheet that has all the points upgrades for all the unique SM chapters that have their own codicies to make models chapter-unique without an effing commander. Not that I'm complaining about my commander (130 point Belial=win, imho).

Balance among armies.

Unbiased codex making.

Cheaper models. I could craft Marneus Calgar out of gold for just a bit more than GW is selling him. (Facetious hyperbole, but you get the point.)

GW caring about the Veterans. People who have paid for GW products since GW had products.

GW caring about customers in general, not the contents of their wallet.

I'm sure some of the more experienced gamers can add to this list of discrepancies and shenanigans.

I don't know what's more absurd in it's unlikeliness, this or the op.

I'm going to aim low and say playtesting. That way when I'm disappointed it'll be more crushing to know GW couldn't handle something that simple.

Also model company, ceteraque, profit, ceteraque, business, ceteraque, doesn't have to answer to gamers et cetera.

Ill be happy if they just get the damn codices FIXED and SUPPORTED! Im sick of wanting to try a different army, only to have the "WEEEEeellllll they are ok but the codex is X amount years old. Jesus some of them have been out longer then my nephew is old. Shoot he plays Necrons(soon I will be too) and that codex is close to his age.
I dont see why a company like GW has so much FRIGGIN TROUBLE getting that in line. Its their own product for god sakes. If I paid my bills, the way they support their own crap, Id be homeless.... or in jail for never paying bills lol

Hey tbh i'd go for something like that.

Fantasy has become so stagnated after the daemons book i'm tempted to start playing 40k after a year and a half off thanks to 5th edition.

Tbh i'd even help set it up, I remember how long I waited for the last Wood Elf Army Book, a staff member sold me a copy christ knows how early just because they knew how much i'd waited for that book.

I doubt that it would have much effect on GW but I suppose if the entire gaming community said the same thing then i imagine they would take notice.

Of course we'd also have to fight through the ranks of fanboi's who will make a wall around GW HQ in Nottingham to stop us getting that petition to them.

That and it might also just confirm and add to GW's eternal hatred of Regulars and Veterens who are all just bitter even though we pump the most money into the hobby and not Johnny and Mommy's Credit Card who buy Black Reach, Paint Set and Codex and are sent on there way.

Still I say go for it i'm all for this Pipe Dream.
