I actually have enough of the pads from the space marine accessory sprue to make an ad mech army, so it is something I might be doing soon. I was wondering how they differed from codex chapters in the fluff? Obviously they are going to have nice rides, but do they have a preferred weapon? Would some iron hands bionics fit?
They are one group that I dont really know much about...

Ad Mech don't have space marines. They have heavily bionic imperial guard type troops.

The Skull and Cog logo from the Marine Vehicles is the Adeptus Mechanicus logo, but the vehicles themselves are piloted by Tech Marines.
The Adeptus Mechanicus' regular forces are the Skitarii, similar to the Imperial Guard in equipment, training and tactics but with noticibily higher quality gear and cybernetic augmetics. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Skitarii
Some Tech-Priests, however, deciate themselves to the Machine God as an Engine of War called Secutor's. If you wanted an Ad Mech themed Space Marine army these guys would be your best bet. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Secutor
Indeed, I have an Explorator Strike Force based on Secutors, using the rules for Chaos Marines to represent there techno crazyness in weapons. Another way to do it would be using Witch Hunters and inducted Imperial Guard, the Sisters of Battle making good Tech-Priests and the Inducted Guardsmen as Skitarii. Karamazov would make an excellent Magos for such a force. Or you could go for a Tech Marine force. The options are pretty wide. You never know though...there is always the chance Games Workshop will cave to demand and make them themselves.

I believe they'll do well to have an engineer / technician theme to them , and not the usual (omg war!!!)
atleast thats how i see them , builder and designers that lives in factory planets , they produce military things but dont really use them? ( i can be wrong of course )

AdMech are not Marines. The red Marines driving tanks are Tech-Marines who's only connection to the AdMech is that they train with them to become TechMarines.
The AdMech have their own army known as the Skitarii, or TechGuard. Info on them here. General info on the AdMech here.

Also bear in mind that A. there are no forces made up of squads of techmarines and B. tech marines are considered extremely low on the totem pole of admech, lower than enginseers and other such "real" adeptus mechanicus members. The admech also do not use marine style power armor, because they are not big enough for it. What you could do with tons of admech shoulder pads, however, is make an Iron Hands style chapter where they are very close to the admech and thus wear the symbol on a shoulder pad.

Well, TITANICUS by Dan Abnett really muddied the waters on what Skitarrii are 'supposed' to be.
Previously, it really was seemingly 'just' Tech-Guard.
That is, imperial guard with some minor/major cybernetics.
Now, after TITANICUS, I'm not so sure.
They seem to be near Marine equals in that book!
So... I'm not sure!

No, Praetorians are an IG regiement based off 19th century British troops.
Apparently, they have bolt-action lasguns.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Use the Imperial Guard codex cuase thats what the tech-guard are, and "counts as" the Praetorians with Grey Knights allies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4qdgno-huo the perfect song for Dark Eldar
Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.” |

From reading the lexicanum page it appears Praetorians are closer to ogryns than SM so perhaps you dont even need to use grey knight rules, just standard guard
