I barely have time to play casual games let alone do tourneys. Maybe someday.

I try to avoid them as they tend to bring out the worst in people. Not my cup o tea unless somebody really pushes me to come.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Tournaments are the most fun you can have playing competatively in this hobby.

I'll try to hit 3-4 per year if money/scheduling permits.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

Wow, lotsa 0's.

I haven't, but I'm just not that good of a player. Once I get up in skill, I'll be happy to take my Orcs and Goblins out for a smashing.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I think i have played in 3 since and including the ard boyz preliminary. Although i have two gaming stores within 30 minutes and probably a total of about 6 within an hour. As far as big events though i almost never go. I have found that the smaller ones bring out the best gamers, are the most fun, and i can normally make my money back in prizes.

"I would love to play in tournaments, but i dont think im good enough."

"Well, i tried playing in one, but i didnt do to well, maybe when im better."

Wrong way to look at things, you get better the more you play. No professional sports team gets big by sitting on their asses all year, and training once a week. Show up, have fun, i placed second to last at the adepticon gladiator first year i went and i loved it.

I used to go to a lot of tournaments (about 8 a year) but now I just don't have the time and no one around me even plays anymore. So now I go to 0.

I attend zero a year. This though is more due to the fact that we have no "Big" tournaments here. Also I'm not even sure if the FLGS here even run their own "little" ones.

Yet if there were tournaments I knew of I would like to join one(once I become more familiar with the rules).

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Well seeing as i only started last year and played none last year and 4 so far this year i averaged it out at 2.The better tournaments to go to are the smaller ones, i prefer them as you already have a good idea of what you are going to face and you know most of the people there and get along with them...usually.

Telling. If we define a hard core tournament player as doing 3+ a year they are a clear minority... less than 20%. If we step up to 6+ a year they are less than 10%.

I used to do 2 a month but since GW screwed the entire canadian tournament scene they are few and far between.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

This. Haven't played in one since a Warhammer tourney in the 90's went terribly, terribly wrong. My opponent got so P.O.'d at what my volley gun did to his Temple Guards and Slann that he burst into tears, packed up his army, and left mid-tourney.

Screw competition. Competition sucks. I'm perfectly happy leaving competition to athletes and chess grandmasters.

My FLGS hosts monthly WM/H tournaments.

They're a great way to get in a lot of games in a short period of time against guys that you don't get to see very often.

I try to make it to each one.

I love playing in tournaments. I've never had a bad experience with people. I tend to laugh and get along and "roll" with the dice. Some folks are all serious. But then I try and let them know that I'm not "hard core" which loosens some up. I play to win but I don't care to languish over minutia or disagreements about how something is played. I crack up when a Tomb Spyder wins a sweeping advance roll vs. 8 Ork bikes. Or my lone RT era metal beakie Marine holds off a group of 8 Assault marines for the better part of 3 rounds.

I find it odd that people don't think they are "good" enough yet to play in tournaments. There is only ever 1 winner so if you go in with a mind set to have fun and meet new people then you become master of your own outcome and enjoyment. You can also get better pretty quick.

I find this for all the game systems I play in which I've participated (or Ran tournaments)... Confrontation, AT43, Infinity, Uncharted Seas, 40K, and WHFB.

Do you count multi-day affairs as one, or more? I played in two tournaments at Adepticon, and judged another. One con, three tournaments?

I guess I've been to 5 (or 3) so far this year, and plans to hit at least three more.

I don't play, I would but I'm so ADD I have trouble picking a gamesystem (constantly flitting between warmachine, WHFB and 40k) let alone an army so I practically constantly paint but never get more that a squad done before I move on to the next project, I do have high hopes for my forthcoming IG, and my orcs and goblins...and my khador :L but when I have myself a fieldable force I'd really like to start going to plenty of tourneys.

EDIT: @wilson, you played 4 games in a day. WOW, oh wait, small games or big games?

Now that I am the only gamer in the village I sit and think about the days when I would go to 4-5 tourneys a year over a baccardi and coke. Since I moved, and the scene in Japan is in its infancy, there are really no "Tourneys". They have the odd 8 man afternoon 500 point gaming Saturday, but not the 32 player, prizes and lunch social networking nerdathons that I really, really miss.
