Hey all,

this weekend my buddy Chris challenged me to a match with my Chaos, which I quickly obliged him with showing him the power of the gods After showing him how good nid's can be in 5th I decided it was time for nurgle to have his hand! Our lists were as follows:

So with that we set up! We rolled a game of Annihilation, Pitched battle. Chris won the roll but chose to let me go first.

My deployment was fairly simple. My left side had my Obliterators set up on a hill, while one rhino with plague marines and my vindicator took up their spots, with the prince hiding in case I lost initiative. On my right board edge my other two rhinos and land raider took up spots at the 12 inch mark, ready to get up there and kill off some imperial scum! My Defiler took the spot in the middle of the board, able to go either way should the need arise.

Chris's deployment was a bit more tactical. He set up his Dreadnaught and Land raider on his right side to face down my oblits and vind, while on his left flank he set up both his razorbacks and command rhino, with the bikers in front to give them cover. He also brought in a foot-slogging squad. he kept his speeder and vindicator in reserve along with the attack bikers. He also set up another rhino on the right board side.



Turn 1
--------
Me-
I moved the landraider and all 3 rhinos 12" up. I moved my defiler to my right flank, just past the middle area of terrain getting a good view. My vindi moved up 6" taking sights of the rhino. The oblits moved up 6" (yay good S&P rolls!). The demon prince flew up 12" to hide in some foliage.
For shooting the Obliterators knocked out one of the razorbacks after it made 1 of its cover saves. The defiler took aim at the bikers, shattering two. The vindicator decimated the dreadnaught, turning it into a smoking husk! All the vehicles (but 1 rhino) used smoke

Chris-
Having lost one razorback and dread chris's men were filled with a zealous rage! Charging in, his bikers went at the LR. The Landraider pivoted so his guns had a good line at the vindicator. His remaining razorback and predator took sights on a rhino on the left board side. His troopers from the rhino moved up into some cover.
For shooting he did rather well! His landraider immobilized the vindicator, relegating it to uselessness as it was out of range for the land raider :( His command rhino called down an orbital bombardment, smoking the rhino with the normal marines inside. They got out and took cover behind some trees. However, the predator had a bead on em, and let loose a volley, killing 2 after saves. The last razorback shot at my last rhino on the right board side, penning, but I made my cover.
For assault his bikers took it to the land raider, doing... nothing. His meltabomb missed, even with his reroll to hit!




So after turn 1 the casulties;
me - 1 rhino wrecked, 2 marines dead, vindi immobilized
Chris - 1 dread wrecked, 1 razorback wrecked, 2 bikers dead

Turn 2

Me-
The time was ripe for slaughter as I unloaded my nurgle termis, hell bent on taking down the bikers. The defiler moved up a bit on the right, while on my left flank my oblits moved 5" and my plague marine rhino moved its full 12", not blocking the vindi in case I had range (didn't know I didn't...) My last rhino on my right flank moved up and around the wrecked rhino 12". The squad of chaos with no vehicle moved up to shoot at his exposed squad. The demon prince flew up into the middle terrain, ready to pop out and take down his reserves.
For shooting the oblits took pot shots at the LR, doing nothing. The vindi was out of range by 4" :( The defiler shot his cannon at the command rhino, doing nothing. The marine squad shot at the nearby Razorback, taking out its gun.
For assault my nurgle termis killed all the bikes but the sergeant! The sergeant used his meltabomb on the LR, taking out one of its lascannons. He (barely) made leadership and we locked in combat.

Chris-
Not much movement on his part. For reserves his attack bikes came in the middle of the board. He moved up the footslogging troops through the woods. The razorback without its gun moved over to his left some.
For shooting his Land raider did nothing to the vindi. His attack bikers a rhino with heavy bolter UNLEASHED into my nurgle DP, doing 7 wounds! I saved 4, taking him down to 1 wound >.> The pred launched everything it had at my other rhino, doing nothing (was still in some cover). Overall not much done
For assault the biker commander took out his rage on the termis, hitting with all his attacks and wounding with them all! Some amazing rolls >.> I failed all my saves losing 3 :( However my termis would have none of it as the sergeant struck all 4 blows, wounding with them all! Finally taking down the biker commander he footslogged toward his mech line, determined to find new victims




After turn 2 the casualties;
me - 1 rhino wrecked, 2 marines dead, vindi immobilized, LR with no lascannon, 4 terminators dead
Chris - 1 dread wrecked, 1 razorback wrecked, 5 bikers dead, razorback with no gun
Turn 3
---------
Me -
Oblits move 3", plague marines rhino moves up another 6" close to his heavy bolter rhino. My demon prince flys to the assault bikes, 5" or so away. My greater demon comes in, killing my power sword sergeant from my normal squad behind the trees. I move the meltagun guys, 4 strong, out of cover, going toward the predator. My nurgle termi moves up near his rhino with no gun. The defiler keeps where he is, content with shooting things.
For shooting my Land Raiders lascannon blows up the last rhino on my right side, forcing the marines out to face my terminators fury! My defiler takes out 2 of the footsloggers, reducing the squad to 3. Oblits take more shots at the LR, finally taking out one of its lascannons! The plague marines by the heavy bolter rhino take shots with their plasma, failing to do anything. my 4 remaining melta marines take out 1 more marine in the footsloggers, reducing it down to the champion.
For assault the DP takes the fight to the bikers, failing his psych test by rolling an 11 :( But he manages 3 wounds and takes none, winning combat (Chris makes all his fearless saves). The nurgle termi fails to do anything to the 6 man marine squad, and they fail to wound him back! close one

Chris -
His vindicator comes in, but the land speeder really likes being off the board! He places it in the middle of the board, aiming to the right at my plague marine rhino. His predator moves up 2-3", taking aim at the other rhino on my right flank that hasn't done much of anything all game... he unloads his last marine squad.
For shooting chris has a good round. finally ignoring my poor vindi, his land raider opens fire on my oblits, killing 1 with his ladcannon and wounding 1 with his heavy bolter. He Opens fire with his marines and heavy bolter rhino, blowing my rhino up and failing to wound the plague marines inside. He then shoots the vindicator at them, scoring a direct hit! He kills all but 3, but they're fearless thank god lol. His predator once again fails to do anything.
For assault not much goes on. His champ assaults the marines, killing 3. They also kill him back, leaving me with 1 marine with meltagun :( The nurgle termi goes on a rampage, killing 4, but they kill him with normal wounds, leaving him with 1 marine. He runs out into the open to find battle! The assault bikers are finished, my DP moving over to the vindicator.





After turn 2 the casualties;
me - 1 rhino wrecked, 2 marines dead, vindi immobilized, LR with no lascannon, 4 terminators dead, 1 obliterator dead, 4 plague marines dead, 7 dead marines
Chris - 1 dread wrecked, 1 razorback wrecked, 5 bikers dead, razorback wrecked, 9 marines dead, biker commander dead, 1 assault biker dead, champion dead

Turn 4
---------
me-
I notice that chris has only 1 reserve left and most of his army is vanquished. I decide to make the final push to end the game as soon as possible! I move my final rhino up out of his odd position, content to kill the lase marine. My solo melta-gun guy decides that attacking the predator seems like an awfully good idea. My DP flys behind the vindi, getting a good position to make his next assault move. The oblits move 6", finally getting off their plateau, aiming at downing the land raider once and for all! My 3 remaining plague marines from their squad chll in their crater, content to eat marines.
For shooting my Obliterators take 2 multi-meltas into the land raider scoring 1 pen! I, however, suck, and score a 1 (so 2 total). Well at least that saves the oblits from the lascannon for a turn The lone melta guy misses with his gun, while my dual plasmas from my last rhino melt the final marine on my right side. The defiler shoots his cannon at the predator, scoring a pen, but I roll a 2 (making it a 1 due to armor). My 3 lone plague marines shoot their dual plasmas... scoring all hits! They kill off 4 of the 6 man squad leaving the heavy bolter and melta. They zeal on toward the plague marines.
For assault not much happens, my DP knocks out the vindi.... and thats it

Chris-
His land speeder FINALLY comes in, but in an attempt to kill the vindicator off finally for a point, he scatters halfway between the vindicator and defiler... For his move he decides to ram my final meltagun guy because the pred can't shoot... I choose to death and glory, penning... AND I ROLL A 1! lol, epic fail :( the lone marine gets squished. His las rhino moves up a bit, going to ram my plague marines should they live to see another turn.
For shooting its very anti-climatic. His rhino and last 2 marines take their shots into the plague marines, killing 1 with a melta. He then assaults, scoring no wounds, and my sergeant puts them in the dirt with his power fist. The land speeder fails to kill the vindicator, rolling a 1 result. The land raiders useless this turn.


The demon prince was on a good run, til the rhino fell on top of him!

Turn 5

me-
Smelling victory I move my greater demon from where hes been sitting and send him at the nearby predator. My DP takes the fight to the command rhino. My defiler moves (then fleets) close enough to the speeder for an assault. My 2 remaining plague marines decide to headbutt the rhino. the oblits move up 4".
For shooting, oblits get 2 weapon detsroyed on the land raider, killing eveything but the stormbolter. They then assault getting a couple glancing, just keeping it in place. The defiler dominates the speeder. The command rhino blows up... TAKING THE DEMON PRINCE WITH IT! It was a good run buddy :( The greater demon takes out the predator at last. The 2 plague marines attack the last rhino, failing to do anything.

Chris -
With only a heavy bolter rhino and a LR with no weapons left, he decides we should end it there.

Great overall game! Chris is a wonderful opponent and we agreed to a rematch sometime in the near future! Perhaps its Khornes turn to show the Black Templars whats up? We didn't count up the final score as... well, if we'd gone 1 more turn I would have cleared out whatever was left lol. If he had focused more fire into the DP rather than attempt the rhinos I believe the game would have been closer. As it was the DP killed at least 300 points in things, well making up for his cost. As well, he focused on the vindi after it was made useless. If he'd taken out the oblits earlier I don't think there was much I could do on that side of the board!

Hey everyone. I'm Chris, the BT player.

Zid and I had a great game! Zid is probably one of the best players at our LGS. He's going to be a good opponent to learn from.

Lessons Learned:
1. Be more aggressive! In all the game I've played recently, I've given deployment and first turn to my opponent. In those games, it didn't matter... in this one, it mattered greatly. Zid was very aggressive (much like a BT player) and was halfway across the board. The result being I didn't have room to maneuver or put my reserves! Very cramped, I didn't like it.
2. Demon Princes aren't that bad ass, but still do plenty of damage when they get in close. My attack bikes did really well against it. Had I taken out the DP, I would have had more room to maneuver and more firepower to apply to my left flank.
3. OBs became a greater threat than the Vindicator. Not a game losing mistake, but a significant one.
4. I usually reserve my bikes. I should keep doing that. Straight up the gut is not their style. I pretty much wasted them.

I'm definitely looking forward to a rematch. Our LGS has a 1750pt tournament tomorrow. I'm hoping to exact revenge on Zid and his bugs. I hope the Gaming Gods give us that opportunity!

well I wouldnt say one of the best, just the most active haha/ i def look forward to tomorrow! hopefully we're in the top so we definitely get to face off my hive tyrant wants BT blood again!

Looks like a pretty good game


Quick tip though that you hit on the head chris:

Be more aggressive
Your using a mobile army against an army that really does tend to lack power in combat (aside from termies)

Push him into combat if and when possible.
Melta attack bikes or meltabikes will work wonders for popping most things in your way.
So get the 1st move, speed into cover and bide time.
2nd turn you can move into melta range and start removing supporting vehicles.
The bike unit will do well against plagues, just make sure you take power weps to remove the FNP and saves.

all in all, push him into a corner and dont let up, hesitation tends to ruin an aggressive play style, but caution is still something you need to take.
