Let’s have a chat about Firestorm Over Kronus. It’s the nicest, shiniest mod for Dark Crusade (sorry soulstorm owners) you’ve ever seen. Really, this mod is the game I was hoping dawn of war 2 would be, no joke. They just released a new version, and a few days ago, I tried it out - and wow, just... wow.

The best way to summarize the mod is as the most comprehensive “closer-to-codex” mod ever made. Units are hard-capped depending on where they actually were in the FOC of their own codex. (i.e. you could build 2 preds and a whirlwind, and then stop with the heavy support, but this would not prevent you from building non-HS units, etc.) the game also uses armor values that are very close to how it works in tabletop – infantry will typically be unable of hurting heavily armored units like most tanks and most buildings with out anti-tank support or special weapon upgrades. ("why aren’t the lasguns working?" I wondered, upon attacking a listening post with some guardsmen). Also, MEQ’s... they tend to be just as durable in this mod as they are in tabletop. Basically, if it was in a codex, it's a fair bet that's probably in here (except, notably, special characters and bikes).

Well, for starters, Chaos? They get to pick any of the 5 marks of chaos, and get the accompanying units that you would expect from each choice, so a tzeench-marked player would get rubric marines and horrors, where as a slannesh army would get noise marines and deamonettes.

Imperial guard benefits from the inclusion of orders, armored company, pretty much every tank from the 5th ed guard codex and of course, a inquisitional landing pad, for when you want to start throwing inquisitional allies (like grey knight dreds and eversor assassins) at the enemy. Also, for the older guard players who will know what I'm talking about: rapier laser destroyer. yes, it's in there.

Tau has pretty much every forgeworld kroot unit ever, as well as sniper drones, gue’vesa, tetras, piranha, and many more.

And there’s lots of other neat things, like how orkz get lootas, or how marines got ironclad and venerable dreds (and 5th-ed codex doctrines – vulkan meltagun spam works just as well in FoK as it does on tabletop)...You can sorta see how this is going to go on and on, but the point is, it’s pretty sweet, and I wanted to see who else on dakka dakka has tried it out. You can probably find it easily on google search, but I think
this is their website.

So! Has anyone else partaken of this majestic mod?

I also forgot a relevant point: The mod has black templars as a playable race. Really, there's a selling point if there ever was one.

kinda makes me wish I hadn't lost my CD key for dark crusade. seriously, CD keys are the worst invention of all time. I loose a slip of paper, and boom, my game is worthless.

Check to make sure your Dark Crusade is at Version 1.2 and that the folder and .mod file are directly in the Dark Crusade folder and not inside a separate folder by themselves.

Should I rush out and get Dark Crusade for this?

I tried it, but hated how it took forever and a day to get any requisiton to make something, then was unhappily surprised to have my 2 full Noise Marine Squads with full sonic weapons and blastmasters fire at full effect on a squad of Necron Warriors for 3 minutes and not even knock any down.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

Railguns, are sonic blasters ap3? no? Then of course it will take a while...try throwing rubric marines at them... (of course, by this logic, the blastmaster should have been doing something...)

I recognize that they won't immediately cut them down. The problem was that by weight of fire, that many sonic blasters going full on should have knocked down a few eventually. They were basically on the sidelines of a huge firefight between Necrons and Imperial Guard. They were being ignored by the Necrons, so I had them focus both squad's firepower into an otherwise unmolested unit of Warriors. They fired for the entire ~3 minutes of the fight, and the Necron warrior unit they were firing on didn't lose a single unit. They had the same problem firing on the isolated Lord later on. Heck, I tried Thousand Sons first and they had a similar problem. I think I may just have had a bugged version, but still, it turned me off to the game for a bit.

Hi, i know this is an old thread but wanted to inform that the FoK Team is still working on this mod and also for others DOW games franchise

here is some info/advert i've posted on other WH40k related forums

Greetings Mortals! I come to you today to inform you about one of the best, most in depth and visual amazing DOW DC mods around. Enter Firestorm Over Kronus. The mod has been in development for several years now, and unlike most mods out there, FoK wont be dieing, or even slowing down for a long time. DoW40K:FoK is a 'closer to codex' mod. The mod not only radically changes gameplay and refines balance, but also is continually adding new units, upgrades, and abilities. A large and active community has grown up around this mod and we currently have around 900 members at our forums actively contributing ideas and suggestions. here is just a teaser of what we have done

BEFORE FoK:

AFTER FoK:

The mod has focused on Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Orks, Imperial Guard, Eldar all with new models, texture, balance and more!
The mod also includes Necrons, and BLACK TEMPLARS! all fully functioning, animated and badass!
We were recently voted into the top 100 gaming mods for 2008 and were the only DoW mod listed!
Please take a look at what we have done, FoK 3.6 is near release fixing all if not all bugs from 3.5 version, also FoK 4.0 is on the works which will be for Soulstorm.

This looks amazing, installing as we speak. Love the new SM models.

Its a pretty decent mod but I think theres a few things that are just WAY out of wack. I think most of the CC is not even close and the fact that it takes about 10 million bullets to kill a SM is a bit annoying. But bugs aside it was a good one

We have a play mode called Hardcore which halves the Hitpoints of everything making the game much more fast paced , i know in 3.5 its has some issues but in 3.6 it works perfectly well
About the close combat, there is little what we can do with the DOW engine limitations, however our coders have done their best to make it the most accurate possible, also have to consider that this is a RTS and there are stuff on TT that cannot be translated to the letter, thats why its "closer to codex" and not "same as codex" hehe

Here are some pics of the 3.6 new stuff:

Lol i havent familiarized with how this forum works yet, i thought that the spoiler tags were like on relicnews forums, hiding pics in a spoiler button.

RC4530 wrote:FoK DC final version is just around the corner, however we are releasing the latest internal build of the mod for our FoK Forums members, this release candidate is pretty much the whole deal but it still lacks some textures and the Advanced AI, the aim of this pre-release is to reward our loyal fans as well as get their help to root out any hidden bug for having a completely bug free Final Release of FoK DC.

To Download the RC4530 you just need to be registered in FoK Forums fok.dow-mods.com
