Have a drink and a comfy seat, this is a bit long!

The FLGS where I work had a big tournament this weekend. 5 games, a big room, amazing tables ( really, these are not the store's table, they are all fan made and incredible )

As 40k players were an odd number, I got a chance to play, which is kinda rare for me as I seriously lack time to play otherwise, or am to busy running the tournament. I also want to apologise for the ( few ) picture and their quality. They were taken by a fan with his iThingy and are the only one I've seen so far...

Here's how I fared:

I think it would be fitting to start with the list I was using. It's what I believe to be an average list using Vulkan.

SkizO's Vulkan One Hit Wonder List

Vulkan He'Stan

Librarian, Termi armor, storm shield, Smite, Might of the Ancients

5 Assault Terminators, TH&SS

Dreadnought ( Multi Melta) in a Drop Pod with Locator Beacon

2 Tactical squads with Flamer and Multi Melta

1 Tactical Squad in a Drop Pod with Melta, Multi melta and sarge with a combi Melta

2 Land raider Redeemers with Extra Armor

Game One

One Hit wonder vs. World Eaters

This army won for best painted army of the tournament, and it featured the amazing Fully sculpted DP in pruple and red! Also in the list: Kharn, a Land Raider, a Vindicator, 2 berserker squads in rhinos, 1 summonned daemon squad and a Heavy Plasma dread

Scenario was pitch battle with 3 objectives. The secondary objective was to kill the ennemy's spy, an IG guardsmen model with the IC special rule.

This game made me think the most, and it ended up in a minor victory for me. I captured 2 objectives and gave one away and my opponent succeded in killing my spy, while his was slowly cruising away in a rhino....

Vulkan killed the daemon prince all by himself in like 5 assault phases. The termis fared pretty bad, deep strinking in the middle of the berserker's army, but due to failling a lot of armor save, they didn't do much nor take a lot of punishement before dying...

Game 2: One hit wonder vs. 1992 Space Wolves

This guy tied for best general ( most battle points + score in the rule quiz) I cannot describe this army as I'm not really familiar with it... Ven dread, a priest kind of guy, 6 terminators including a lord guy and some troop choices in rhinos.

This game I lost in major part due to badluck or weird stuff going on. Scenario is control table quarters. Each table quarter is an objective, you must have a scoring unit in a corner and no opponent unit at all in it. Secondary objective was to kill the cheapest scoring unit.

The game went rather well for the first 4 turns, then luck weighted in... I was aiming for the minor victory, killing the cheapest scoring unit ( which died pinned in their rhino's crater on turn 2) while contesting table quarters.

On turn 4, my opponent got on a lucky strike and blew appart most of my stuff: 4 krak grenades killed a drop pod, 2 scouts without a p wep killed vulkan and a assault cannon immobilised my raider..

it ended in a minor loss for me, but it was a quite fun and challenging game.

Game 3: One Hit Wonder vs McMarines ( a.k.a Howling Griffins)

Again, I'm not part of the lucky people out there... But this is the best game I've had in the 2 days. Griffins army was: 1 captain on bike with a biker of doom squad with 3-4 meltas, thunderfire cannon, a iron clad in drop pod, 2 squads in razorbacks, a sniper squad, 3 typhoon LS and a vindy.

Scenario was a modified pitched battle, the primary objective was to capture the centre of the board ( where happenned to be a statue on our board)and could not end in a draw. If both had a scoring unit, or the same amount of SU, points for the SU's models were counted to determine the winner ( as winning this game affected the next 2 scenarios) the secondary objective was to kill the costiest unit. Mine was a redeemer, his was the typhoon squad.

This game was originally called slaughtering helpless griffins until bad luck found me. I owned the game until my turn 7 His turn 7 however turn my minor victory into his major win with a legendary dice roll. My land raider sitting next to the fountain and denying griffin movement to the statue got surrounded by the griffin leftovers. assault phase was glancing hits festival on the already damaged LR. since my doors where now blocked I had to emergency dissembark, I though no problem, I got 10 marines, he's got 6... Until I rolled 4 ones on the dangerous terrain.

So a major loss for me.

I was lucky no one dropped out the tournament, I got to play in day 2!

Game 4

One Hit wonder vs Calgar's Finest

**Sorry I don't have pics for this... They were a rather cool bunch, not painted in the traditional boring Ultra look ***

Ultra's list was: Marneus Calgar, 1 redeemer, 3 melta totting troopsin rhinos, 2 vindicators and 1 tornado speeder.

Scenario was a pitch battle with Night fight starting on turn 5 and onwards. Primary objective was kill points, secondary objective was to destroy all tanks and transports...

I had a real hard time in this scenario, mainly because i don't think any of my tanks/pods survived past turn 3. After this horrible turn ( 620 points loss in a single shooting phase is quite a turn off at 9 in the morning lol ) i turned it around salamender style, using twin linked flamers et MC thunder hammers to carve my way to the top.

In the end, I was 1 rhino a 2 ultras short of tabling him. Minor victory!

Game 5

One Hit wonder vs Umbrella Corps IG

Resident Evil themed IG, featuring 40 conscript zombies, 2 basilisk, 3 leman russ, 1 hell hound and a death strike. really cool army.

Scenario was dawn of War. Primary Objective, you had to nominate a model to be your general, and your goal was to keep him alive. Secondary objective was to wipe all scoring units from the board.

This game was a little odd, as on the second turn, my librarian Force-sticked the commissar lord, and my opponent crippled my Land raider with a scoring unit and vulkan far ou of LOS and range of anything ( go go deathstrike) the game lasted 6 turns, 3 of which my opponent spent trying to get to my LR down, while the rest of my force went for a plan called Operation Meatshield

I won a Major Victory, but offered my opponent to buy a pint. he gladly accepted and the tournament ended on this note!

Overall I finished 6th place. I scored the highest in sportsmanship ( but gave the prize away... to a real player if you will) and got a fairly good painting score event though my army is far from finished ( LRs are barely 3 colors). Army-Composition wise I lost some points ( 2 LR... it's to be expected) and got 8 out of 8 in the rule quiz.

I'm quite happy, and in all honesty, I will try to get more play time in the next weeks in order to get more games and participate in tournaments seeing I really enjopyed this! Hope you had a good read!

Can Space Puppies bring drop pods to the party?
Nice McMarines, I wouldn´t touch that scheme even if they paid me but the army looks very sharp.

@ Miguelsan : I think so... Anyway it's all changing in 2 weeks, eh?

@Bleieskiftarbeider : Thanks a lot man! The green is simple enough:

Undercoat black
I then airbrush them with Chardonite Granite( use the GW sparygun with a testor compressor)
Drybrush with catachan Green
Drybrush camo Green
Then wash the entire model using roughly6:1 Water-catachan green
Once this is dry, was the entire model with roughly 10:1 Water-Scorched Brown«

The characters were given a little bit more focus, as I used blending instead of drybrush

@Miguelsan: Yes they can, in fact this is the ONLY WAY they can deep strike, because they don't teleport, but they will ride to the battle in a thin coat of metal rocketing through they sky

Anyways Skiz, that's a great battle report(s)! I love your descriptions, and the streamlined style is kinda cool.

Being an old codex I wasn´t aware that they could access drop pods. Live and learn they say.

@ Bleieskiftarbeider

I don,t have much in terms of pictures ( I don't take any ) but here are close ups a friend did of my HQs:

@ Ripister

Not a big fan either. They are less bright in reality, as is the table actually, the colors of the picture are yellowish. This guy is much more about playing than painting... I'm not event sure he likes them himself... He bought them off ebay a while ago and he just kept the scheme for his new stuff. I believe the paintjob psyches opponents out in the fierce turns of gameplay

@ Zid

Thanks! I'll try to get more of these done. Maybe even bring a camera for the next one.
