Just played a game VS a Stompa as mentioned in a previous thread. Imperial Guard vs Orks. Two things came up in the game I would like help with please.
No.1 -
Can a Stompa shoot at several different targets & then assault a completely different target?
I'm pretty sure that they 'can' shoot at different targets but can they then assault different things?
I have no Apocalypse rule book......
No.2 -
Another thing that came up was about Tanks shooting.
Can a tank, pivot on the spot during the shooting phase or does it have to be done in the movement phase?
I'm pretty sure they can but I've been wrong before.
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi.... Your my only hope.

Not sure about the first one. But, yes a tank can turn on the spot during the shooting phase, unless it's unable to move because of Imobilization or Crew Stunned. At least that's what I remember at the moment

Edit: Also you might want to ask this on You Make Da Call instead of here.

OK. That sounds cool, however. I have a friend that I played yesterday that is STILL contesting the fact that I can pivot in the shooting phase.... Can you point me to some point of reference please?
His argument is that in the rules it say's you do all the pivoting in the movement phase & doesn't mention it in the shooting phase.....

Well I figured I could too mate. But.... I re-posted this thread in another topic & everyone seems to say NO, NO, NO!
In the end we rolled a dice for it as we couldn't decide. My friend was certain that I couldn't, I was sure that I could. He won the dice roll.... D'oh!

.... you CANNOT pivot in the shooting phase. don't have my book, but RAW is that you cannot pivot in the shooting phase, i'm quite sure of it. I almost lost a friend over this, he wanted to fire his vindicator at a unit about 90 degrees off center from it... it only has a 45 degree arc, and he cant move it in the shooting phase...

i'd normally let him get away with it, but it was against my last scoring tac squad in a tournament on the last turn.

Hilarious. It wasn't quite that intense in my argument. However your point has been duly noted & logged as a thing to remember.....
Cheers dude.

Walkers may pivot in the shooting phase (BGB pg 72) but other vehicles may not. Be sure your tanks are pointed at what they want to shoot at the end of their movement phase!

Correct, otherwise rhinos could turn backwards, dump out the marines and then turn around again in the shooting phase, thus protecting their rear armor.

Isn't it that they can pivot in the shooting phase as long as they did not move during the movement phase?

That's the way it was in 3rd and 4th. Not 100% on 5th.

It changed in 5th. Now you can pivot in the movement phase and have it not count against moving, but you aren't allowed to do it during shooting anymore.

Turrets would be useless if you could move all willy nilly like that.

Hardly. Turrets would allow you to redirect fire after moving.

Let me be more clear.

If you could pivot on the spot in the shooting phase the only difference in a fixed cannon on a vidicator and a turreted auto cannon on a predator would be which way your rear armour is facing. Essentially having almost no down side to a fixed 45 degree arc on a vehicles weapon.

Going back to your first query, gargantuan creatures and super heavy vehicles can shoot at seperate targets and assault another target altogether, even if it was not one of the targets shot at. The Apocalypse rule book explains this by saying that super heavy vehicles have many crew and they can operate independantly of the driver, other gunners etc... Gargantuan creatures are described as having more than one brain, which means they can concentrate on shooting one thing(s) and assaulting another.
