After reading a bit of hype on War of the Ring, it definitely looks like something I want to check out. The trouble is, I can't find it anywhere. It is OOP? Or did it just die out in the 6 months since it was released? Was it ever available in the US - I assume it was. Thanks!

It is quite popular here in Tulsa.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Astro LoTR Strategy Battle Game is generally skirmish and campaign-based.
War of the Rings is one rule book containing everything needed for mass battles in middle earth using lots of figures.

We just started WoTR here in Fresno, California. Excellent system, a lot of fun.

Getting the rulebook required me to go to a few online gaming retailers and make sure they had one available. If they didn't, it was because they had not ordered enough!

you know... the appeal to me with the LOTR game system is that it was a game you could get into, and compleat and army with UNDER $100

then GW dose what GW dose best... raise prices, and make a new game where you need to buy 10 times the ammount of models you have... O and you will also need 50 or so of those movement trays that are like $1.5 a pop.

it is something i would at leat TRY (no way im even giving apoc or plant strike so much as a second glance)... but i aint gonna go out and buy another 20 + easterling Cav models, another 5 or 6 boxs of easterling warriors, more command blisters, i think you get the idea.

We do Envy, but there is also the factor of how much time a potential player already spends modeling / purchasing other game systems.
If they want to dedicate some painting and cash to WoTR, and they enjoy it immensely, it is no harm no foul that it took away from several other games that didn't quite hit the spot. It's all relative.

And with that said, WoTR is a unique system compared to the SBG. Some people prefer the former, some the latter.
