Who else saw the episode on waypoint?
I did and I am disappointed. The midget Odst was stupid along with the spartan.
It just seemed to be thought for kids under the age of 10 who would just say OMG about the action.
The story could be be done so much with. It was just wrong they took a great story and buchered it.
WHY HALO WHY?

O H I am in the Webway...

Yes Assassins creed lineage is very good.

I think it's fine and I'll probably watch it. It's very anime.

Personally I would have LOVED a Live Action series but I think that they are doing that for a movie (/messpants if that comes true)

It's just fine. Halo's storyline is much better if you read the novels and background. I can't wait for the rest of it.

I've seen a lot of praise for this and a lot of hate for this over at HBO. The hate seems to fall into a few categories:

1) WHY DO THEY HAVE LONG HAIR??!?
2) WTF THE SCALE KEEPS CHANGING
3) WELL ACTUALLY THE NOVELS SAY THIS SO THIS BIT IS WRONG

...and so on. Personally I enjoyed the episode (and no garret, I'm not 10). If this series ends up polarising the community to the extent that one half simply ragequits and wanders off saying "waaah you ruined halo waaaah", so be it. A least the whining should subside a little.

Gathering the Informations.

The problem is that they let some anime studios do the typical "anime" shenanigans, rather than supervise it.

But eh. It's cool to see more content, and Waypoint is pretty neat so far.

I agree that they should have had Bungie help with the design. Long hair in the military is silly, and IIRC, Spartans always have close-cropped/shaved hair.

Anime, in MY Halo? Get that s#$% outta here.

(I've never heard of this so I have to go investigate)

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

The hair was a concession they knew they were going to have to make going into this project. If they were going to do a live-action project, for example, then yes, heads would be shaved. See the MST3K Mantra.

I must wonder, then, what kind of silly, hair-brained and hallucinogen induced standards an anime production company must work under when they think that long hair is so important that they would rather not work on a project than attempt some sort of accepted military standard to make their work more relate-able to their audience.

It's not all as bad as Final Fantasy.

It's not as if everyone's walking around looking like cloud strife, railguns. About two of the main characters' hair is longer/more "anime" than might seem accepted military standard. The degree to which this alienates you will obviously differ from viewer to viewer, but I hardly think it's a dealbreaker. Unless of course you don't like anime to start with, in which case you probably shouldn't force this on yourself.

Although, youtube's the only place you'll find this first episode now until the DVD release in February. The next one's done by a different studio in a totally different style, and on top of that is about Elites, so there's not much room for anime hair.

Excellent. I'd like them to get the same guys who did Dead Space: Downfall. That was good anime without ridiculous hair or anything like that.

The studios involved are Studio 4°C, Production I.G, Casio Entertainment, Toei Animation, and Bones.

I watched the episode clip. It wasn't too bad, I suppose, although that Brute seemed to randomly change size between shots.

Out of those, Bones and Production I.G. can do some pretty amazing stuff.

At their top, Production I.G. did Ghost in the Shell, and I'll be damned if that isn't a great movie.

Bones also has my respect, Cowboy Bebop movie, Wolf's Rain, Darker Than Black, Sword of the Stranger to name a few.
