I'd like Dakka to have some kind of built-in Instant Messenger. I've seen other forums with it.

I know what you mean and it could be a good idea. However, it could be a double-edged sword. I've seen this (http://www.chatango.com/) on several web-sites and it is very good. The downside is that you'd have to register on the site to get a username.

This topic has been made a fair few times, it usually comes down to it would put too much strain on Dakka's server.
