I've been playing since 3rd edition. And I keep seeing this phrase re-guarding powerfists and I guess I'm just not seeing the connection.

How is a powerfist "hidden"?

I mean I can see the darn thing on the model. Is there something I'm just not getting about this?

Sorry if it seems like a noob question, I just read it alot and not sure what its referring to.

Cheers!

It means that you can't pick the fist out and kill it individually so it'll keep swinging until the whole unit dies.

ahhh....ok, yeah I noticed they took out the "under template get's removed" and made it, so you can remove any model in the squad that's gotten hit. Which would make the player keep the Powerfist Sergeant around as long as possible.

Thanks!

To get a Power Fist you need:

Mind War
Vindicare sniping
Jaws of the Cheese Wolf
If it's a psyker with a PF, then a Culexus can snipe him (i think)
Or if it's an IC with a PF, he can be targeted in CC.

Any other ways?

Or just drop a demolisher template on the squad and kill the entire thing., and 2 plasma cannons, and a las cannon, all from one tank!

LoL nothing like overkill to handle that pesky powerfist.

In addition, there is always wounding the squad with enough shots from one of your units so that he must allocate a wound to each member.

That could end up 'sniping' the fist.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Theres no kill like overkill

Doesn't matter what it is or what it is intended to do. If you add a chainsaw to it then it is instantly better!

Thats true, at the very least its target practice with scoring hits.

"Friendly fire, isn't."

As noted, in the 3rd edition assault rules, you could single out a Veteran sgt, who was a squad-upgrade character, with close combat attacks. Independent Characters could also choose to allocate attacks against specific models in base contact, and so kill the Lascannon or the Space Wolf Grey Hunter with a Powerfist.

Since 4th ed, squad upgrade characters haven't been able to be singled out, and ICs have lost the ability to pick out particular squaddies.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

That demolisher cannon isn't going to wipe the squad when its a powerfist hidden in a 30-count ork squad, let alone when its in cover laughing off your shots with 4+ cover saves against 6 point models...
