Hey everyone,

One of the local game stores just started up an escalation league (sort of). Every week there's a different points total, and a different set of requirements for army composition. You're not required to play the same race every week, and painting is scored on a couple of the weeks. I'm using Dark Eldar as much as possible, but where I can't fit the comp requirements with them I'm using Dark Angels.

Anywho, the first week was 1500 pts with only 3 non-troop choices allowed (standard force org still in effect). Without both of my HQ and my ravager, I've barely got 1500 pts right now so I had to upgrade the hell out of everyone. Here's the list:

HQ

Archon - Jetbike,shadow field,combat drugs,tormentor helm,punisher,plasma grenades

ELITE

10 Wyches - 2 blasters, succubus with agonizer, plasma grenades, Raider (w/ horrorfex)

5 Warp Beasts (doesn't use a slot on the force org)

TROOPS

12 Warriors - 2 Dark Lances, blaster
12 Warriors - 2 Dark Lances, blaster
10 Warriors - 2 Dark Lances, sybarite w/ agonizer
10 Raiders - Splinter Cannon, shredder, sybarite w/ agonizer, Raider
10 Raiders - Splinter Cannon, shredder, sybarite w/ agonizer, Raider

FAST ATTACK

5 Jetbikes - 2 blasters, succubus w/ tormentor helm, punisher, plasma grenades

My opponent was a Dark Angels player and an all around nice guy. His list was something like this:

Belial and Terminators
3x Tac Squads in Rhinos
Lascannon pred
Drop Pod Dread

The game was annihilation with pitched battle deployment. He won first turn.

He deploys two rhinos to my right, one to the left, and the terminators and predator up the middle. I deploy everything in the cover of some ruined buildings. For my combat drugs, I roll 12" charge for the Wyches and +1 S for the jetbikes.

TURN ONE

He moves up all the rhinos and the terminators. The predator stuns one of my raiders, and one of my warrior squads takes heavy losses to his terminators firing. The warriors begin falling back.

On my turn, the wych raider moves 12" towards the terminators and the wyches hop out. Jetbikes go flat out towards his rhinos. Massive dark lance firing stuns a rhino (hooray). With a good fleet of foot roll and some 12" charging, both the Wyches and the Warp beasts hit the terminator squad. They do a couple wounds, and take none in return (I love that 4+ invulnerable in CC).

TURN TWO

The tac squad near my jetbikes hops out and proceeds to go to town on my jetbikes, killing three and causing them to fall back. Pred blows up the Wych Raider. Minor losses elsewhere. The massive combat in the center continues, with a couple casualties on each side.

Jetbikes rally, and sit there waiting to be shot up again. Dark lances immobilize and blow the weapon off a rhino. Combat in the center continues, with again just a couple casualties on each side.

TURN THREE

His dread drops right in front of my three warrior squads. The combination of assualt cannon and heavy flamer kills most of one squad, but they manage not to run off the board. His pred blows up another raider, and the warriors inside are pinned. The combat in the center of the table finally finishes, with the combined force of my wyches and beasts taking down his terminators.

My wyches and beasts run off towards fresh prey, and are joined by the remainder of my jetbike squad. My shooting stuns and immobilizes his predator (whew). The wyches, beasts, and jetbikes completely annihilate the tac squad that dismounted from its rhino.

TURN FOUR

He drives one of his rhinos away, and dismounts the squad in the adjacent rhino. The third rhino closes on my last remaining Raider. The first tac squad kills the rest of my jetbike squad, only leaving the Archon alive (who fortunately passes his fall back test). The other tac squad rapid fires the hell out of my raider and blows it. The squad then assaults the survivors of the crash, with a few dying on each side.

Dark lances blow up his dread, unfortunately killing five warriors in the resultant explosion. The pile of wyches,beasts,and my archon then descend on the next tac squad, and again completely destroy it. My succubus joins the party in the other assault and the squad kills a handful of marines, however the Marines cut down a pile of Eldar and win the assault, with my warriors falling back.

TURN FIVE

He turns his pred on my archon, but his shadow field keeps him alive. The empty rhino fires on the Wyches, to no avail. His last remaining tac squad (with 2 dudes surviving) hops back in its rhino and fires on some warriors, doing a few wounds.

Warriors continue running, I blow up his drop pod, and wych blasters blow up a rhino. We roll and head for turn six.

TURN SIX

He again fires his pred at my archon, but fails to take him down. Last remaining tac squad fires at warriors, but has poor luck.

The wych/beast/archon fun pile heads towards his pred, and the archon blows it apart in assault. The explosion unfortunately kills a couple wyches and all of my warp beasts.

At this point, all he has left is a rhino with two marines in it, so we decide to call it here.

Current record 1-0

It was a fun game, and I got to meet a bunch of new people, as I usually go to the other shop in town. Next week is 1600 pts, with only 150 pts allowed in upgrades. With the models I've got (and even if I buy a few more), there's no way I can do this with Dark Eldar. My archon alone has 100 pts. in upgrades. So I think I'll be playing with my Dark Angels next week.

I'll try to keep this updated as the league proceeds if people are interested.

I am interested so please do keep posting! Interesting rules, I assume that the HQ didn't count as a non troops unit?

Nice to see that the Dark Eldar even with massive upgrades did well.

The HQ counted as a non-troop unit, but the warp beasts didn't (this is specified in the codex). I like the comp requirements, it makes you take some strange stuff. For example, one guy with Space Wolves just had a pile of marines with no vehicles at all.

As a former DA player, I'd be interested in reading the army list you plan on using in the future, if you have one written.

Sure. The restrictions for next week are 1600 pts. with only 150 pts. of upgrades allowed. Transports do not count as upgrades. So here's the list I'm planning on using:

And we're back for round two. This weeks requirement was 1600 pts, with no more than 150 pts in upgrades. This unfortunately meant that I couldn't use my Dark Eldar, so Dark Angels it was. You can see my list a couple posts up.

My opponent this week was a guy with Necrons. His list was something like this (I'm not overly familiar with Necrons):

Lord w/ Res Orb
5 Immortals
2 Tomb Spyders
3x 10 Warriors
5 Scarabs
2x 3 Destroyers
Monolith

The mission was capture and control, pitched battle. I put my objective in some ruins in my left corner, and he put his in some ruins in the opposite corner.

He won the roll, but chose to go second. I deployed my tac squad with the missile launcher on my objective, with the other tac squad on the opposite side to head towards his objective. Assault squad, dreadnaught, speeder, and vindicator deployed up the middle to use some cover. Bikes and termies stayed in reserve. He deployed one spyder on each side of the board, put the destroyers in the center, and put the lord, immortals, and scarabs on his objective.He kept all the warriors squads and the monolith in reserve (1 warrior squad deploying through the monolith).

TURN ONE

Vindicator moves up behind some cover. Assault squad and dreadnaught head into the ruins in the center. Speeder flies forward, and tac squads stay put. Some small amounts of shooting don't really accompilsh anything other than putting one wound on a spyder, and the vindicator is like an inch out of range of his lord.

He moves up the spyders on both sides, and both generate scarabs. Scarad squad comes flying towards my vindicator, and he tucks his lord and immortals behind a building to avoid the vindicator. One destroyer squad blows off my dread's ass cannon, and the other kills 4 assault marines. He stuns my speeder.

TURN TWO

Since dread can't shoot at range anymore, it moves back to help the tac squad defend the objective. Assault squad moves to assault the destroyers, and Vindicator rumbles over some barbed wire to try to get a firing arc for when his reserves arrive. Assault squad hits his destroyers, wiping them all out before they get a chance to strike.

All of his destroyers stand back up and join the other unit. He gets two warrior squads from reserve, and they move on near his lord. Spyders advance on both sides, and scarabs reach my vindicator. His warriors unload on my assault marines, leaving only the sergeant. His scarabs assault my vindicator and stun it.

TURN THREE

My terminators drop in. Dread moves behind some cover to wait for his spyder. Tac squad near the vindicator hops out to double tap his scarabs. They drop two bases, and put a wound on another. Speeder moves up and flames his warriors, put only a couple die. Terminators pour into the destroyers, but only drop one.

Spyders continue advancing, and destroyers start moving towards my objective. He shoots a pile at the termies, but only one dies. Both spyders assault, one on the dread and the other on the vindicator. My dread puts one wound on his spyder, and he does nothing in return. The other spyder gets something like 5 penetrating hits on my vindicator, and it gets blown sky high. His scarabs assault my tac squad, and I kill two bases worth, losing one in return.

TURN FOUR

Termies advances on warriors. The tac squad on my objective fires a few random shots, but does nothing. The termies assault his first warrior squad, killing all but one (perfect!). His spyder shakes my dread, and I do nothing in return. My tac marines kill off a few more scarabs.

Still no monolith for him. He continues advancing the destroyers, and moves the right most spyder to assault my tac squad that is currently tied up with the scarabs. In assault, I kill his one remaining warrior with my termies and they get a nice 4" consolidate move. The tac squad finishes off the scarabs, but a couple get squashed by the spyder. My dread finishes off his other spyder.

TURN FIVE

My bikes show up (outflanking) on the same table edge as his destroyers. Termies move towards his warriors/immortals/lord. Tac squad on my objective moves out of the destroyers' firing arc. Bikes advance on destroyers, and melt one of them. Termie fire knocks down 3 immortals. Termies assault both the warriors and immortals/lord. Belial and the apothecary hit the immortals, and everyone else hits the warriors. Belial kills the remaining three immortals, and the apothecary puts a wound on his lord. The rest of the squad kills a handful of warriors, and takes one loss in return. In the tac squad combat, I kill his spyder's scarabs and lose two in return.

His monolith finally arrives, and lands directly in front of my objective. He sucks the destoyers through, and they are right next to my objective. They fire at my rhino, but fortunately to no effect. Monolith firing immobilizes my dreadnaught, but has no other effect. During assault, I finish off his remaining warriors and lord, and consolidate towards his objective. The spyder combat results in a couple casualties for me, but they decide to hang around.

We head for turn six.

TURN SIX

Termies move onto objective, bikes and speeder move back towards my objective. Everything fires at the monolith, but they all just bounce off. I assault his monolith with my bikes (melta bombs on the sarge), but he misses. The tac squad/spyder combat is keeps chugging, with me again losing a marine but passing Ld test.

His warriors come on, and his lord gets pulled through the monolith. Monolith shooting is again ineffectual (I made a ton of saves). Everything else opens up on the rhino on my objective, cracking it and kill 2 marines. Spyder combat again kills a marine, and I make Ld.

So the game ends with me holding one objective and the other contested, giving me the win. If his monolith hadn't showed up so late, things would have turned out very differently.

CURRENT RECORD 2-0, which apparently puts me in first (a lot of people had draws this week)

Next week signals the return of the Dark Eldar!

Unfortunately, the league was a bust this week due to lack of people showing up. So I ended up playing the Necron guy from last week again. We're starting back up after the new year, so the Dark Eldar will ride again in 2010.

Well, unfortunately the league was canceled due to lack of interest (only 4 people were showing up routinely). There's talk of re-starting it soon if more people show up. So if that happens, I'll start up another thread. Thanks for reading.
