Frothing Warhound of Chaos

Curious to hear all of your thoughts. My entire Chaos Space Marine army is composed of the Emperor's Children. I found a paint scheme that I really like, and regardless of the "underpowered" nature of the codex at the moment, I love the army.
Recently I have acquired a reaver class titan as a centerpiece for this army. I am now deciding how to paint it, and what to name it. I had a sweet name picked out for it, till I realized my brain had subconciously stolen it from another sci-fi book. Regardless, my question is this: Would a titan ever be painted in the colors of a chapter? According to imperial organization, the titan legions are totally separate from the astartes, so a loyalist force would typically not include titans.
I have read both Fulgrim and Mechanicum, and know the stories well. In Mechanicum, I learned about the creation of the Dark Mechanicum. This offshoot of Mars corrupted and converted many titans for Horus. Does that mean the titans were still unassigned to specific chapters of the traitor legions?
What it boils down to is this: Would it be silly to paint the reaver in the color scheme of my Emperor's Children?
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Pre heresy Legions never had their own Titans.
Every Titan was part of a Titan legio and those chosing to side with the warmaster are part of traitor Titan legios.
There is some fluff about Iron Warriors and titans but to expand this to EC seems a bit far.
Would suggest to keep the machine in titan legio colors and just have it assigned to your CSM group as tribute of the dark mech.

The Dark Mechanicum still do have their own Titan Legios and no, they do not paint them in the same colors as the Legion. They are seperate but will often only commit to aiding one Legion ever.

Maybe do it in a favoured variation of Legios colours, and then add accents or markings to match your EC? That would reflect the titan sticking with the warband more of the time.

Devil's Advocate: I was under the impression that 10k years in the eye of terror had removed pretty much all organization amongst the traitor legions. Honestly, I thought each legion was at this point little more than a pirate warband with whatever ships and equipment they still had functional (except for the iron warriors, who have that nesting instinct). If this is the case, then would there even still exist a dark mechanicum to appeal to for titan support?
If the dark mechanicum were still around 10k years after the heresy, who is protecting them? Do they have their own skitaari? Do they have their own forge-worlds? I would think that after all of this time, the vehicles and technology they once had would have been disseminated amongst the warbands they had found themselves working with. This is the only case I can imagine where the titan could be legion-specific.
Again, just playing devil's advocate.

There are still forgeworlds in the Eye. Kind of have to be, not all the vehicles are from the HH, the ones that are still need maintaining, and someone has to make all the ammunition. I think the Mechanium may retain its structure better than some of the legions. They have the whole logic thing holding them together and not infighting splitting them up. I imagine their infighting to be much more subtle 'dead mans shoes' style.

yep, there are still forge worlds and still legions. the traitor titan legions still make their own titans and support them. playing fluffnazi i dont think youd see one painted up in a specific chapters colors but in the eye of terror who knows. oh, and something to keep in mind. the eye is not some wild west shootout. sure, mostly everybody hates everybody but its a mutual hate so you still have alliances and you still have order to a degree. the only difference is that in the eye youll most likely get eviscerated and eaten rather than just executed for a crime =P

The loyal mechanicum has its own forces but still gets support from others, so any backup for the dark mech from other chaos
factions would just represent their alliances and payment for services.
Still, chaos is the opposite of order and the titan legios splitting up into groups of mercenaries ( and some possed demon machines)
could happen. But chaos is also "quest for power" so keeping your force in its most powerful form ( legio ) may be so much more
desirable. IMO this all depends on the crews, if one can grasp control and keep them together as they were pre-heresy, a force
may stay as it was. ( just with some "minor" details changed from their warped masters ).

The Dark Mechanicum is still a big deal. They work for Abadabadon mainly and he supplies them with a load of technology and other such things. Without the Dark Mechanicum, every Crusade wouldn't have even been able to be launched.

It would great and I would love to see some pics when you have it done...

Thank you all for your input. I am leaning towards painting the model with my version of the Emperor's Children paint scheme. While I appreciate the strictly fluff-minded direction of some of your suggestions, I think that I would like to see the model unified with the rest of the army. That said, I am sure there could exist a titan requisitioned by the pre-heresy Emperor's Children, that was eventually assimilated into the chapter after turning to chaos and being daemonically possessed. Perhaps I should run a 3 game narrative campaign in which my EC army is attempting to steal the titan from the dark mechanicum, represented by renegade guard or some such.
Of course I will post pics when I finish this project, but I expect that to be very far off in the future due to the number of other projects I have going right now.
As for the name, I am thinking of going with "The Reward of Cruelty", after the William Hogarth engraving of the same name. You can view the engraving here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cruelty4.JPG
Now I need to start thinking about banners. How many, where to hang them, what to depict etc.

That's the thing about Chaos, you never know what can happen. By all means, I'm sure this is possible, if not just for the fact that the Emperor's Children are one of the few fanatics that could not only pull it off but have the drive to want to do so. I mean, they like bright colors, why would they wanna fight with a darkie?

Let's face it. If a titan of any allegiance (or anything else for that matter) spends to much type around a bunch of derranged art fags, it's gonna' get "improved" alot. They really can't help themselves. Maybe paint the feet in EC colours and keep the rest of the (out of reach) stuff the original dark mech colours. Or they have scafffolding...

i would love to see this
im curently building a 5th ed EC army
it will have suupport elements like titans, flyers, daemon engines which will be painted different colours to represent different allied factions
although a titan in EC style would look very cool

I see no reason at all as to why you couldnt. One fun thing about 40k is that. Even with all of its fluff. There is enuff room to justicfy doing almost anything you want really. Even in the fluff itself there are things in it that you would never think would happen but it does.
Your EC are just that hardcore that they have gotten there hands on there own accord. Even something as simple as that is plenty enuff reason to justify your group having one.
You can of course go into much more detail then that but even something as simple as that would work.
but having a titan painted in something other than the ussually colors would be pretty awesome. Even more so in EC colors.
