CAUTION, PICTURES A'PLENTY
Well, I think it's about time I started a blog I DIDN'T neglect, so i'm making a blog to accommadate for all my (far too many) projects at once. I'll start things off with the first squad in the guard army I'm planning. the army will include tanks with steam boilers and great gears sticking out of the back, along with steam powered sentinals, tesla coils, and other things i can think up.
The idea is for them to be a steampunk themed force with clockwork and steam power running everything. (and yes, i realise the pictures aren't very good, i have a bad camera and worse photography skills, but i'm improving)
the first soldier and one of the few with helmets, his lasgun is a combination of lasgun and fantasy empire handgun (they have little clockwork mechanisms on the sides)
the next guy still needs his ears but has a handgun with a las end
one of the gunners, with added canisters (likely to store his pocketwatch, for his lack of actual pockets)
this guy will probably become the first member of a stormtrooper squad, his rifle is connected to a steam tank on his back via those tubes, thus, a hotshot lasgun
the first one i made, this is a smple las barrel on the handgun's stock and trigger.
the sergeant, carrying a steamsaw and a pistol
the sniper, with bowler hat, will eventually become part of a special weapons squad of snipers.
the vox man, the vox was fine how it was, but all the other squads in the army will have modified ones.
another generic rifleman
I bet someone out there is saying "But mister 'the children', how can you have a steampunk army with no goggles!?"
well be quiet, you haven't seen the last image yet!
And there we have it, the first squad. and I just realised I forgot a group shot.

Yay! Steamie! Are you going to try to work some warmachine parts into this (jacks for sentinels anybody? or even Sentinel Warjacks for Sentinels!) or other steamery (eg malifaux)?

You know, privateer press warmachine stuff never occurred to me
do they have any plastic kits yet or are they still all metal?
3 pic update! (yes, that fast) although not of the steamy sort. this is of the chaotic fantasy sort. well the title does say 'among other things'.
this is the chaos lord/hero on juggernaught which is still very much a work in progress.

heh, actually i didn't use any yellow, OR orange on it. i followed the instructions in last month's white dwarf for non mettallic gold and somehow wound up with that, so i just went with it. it's made up of a few different browns and bleached bone.

Heavy warjack kits are all plastic now, as are some infantry. Also you can order individual metal parts from their web store...

Thanks for mentioning warmachine, I checked the site and now I'm planning on buying lots of their steam engines and smoke stacks, plus a few miscelanious pieces from them. That will have to wait until I get money though, until then, here's some pictures of the finished juggernaut.
Alongside the steampunk army, I'll be putting up some stuff from this WoC army a bit too, although once I get it properly started the guard army will be my main focus.
Comments and constructive criticism are definately welcome here

Awesome paint skills, very nice non-metallic gold. Noticing a Chaos warrior on a Juggernaut along with normal (if you can call them that) Guard, is this an actual pts force or just for a collection?
Either way, like the clockwork las/hand guns and the general steampunk theme, like the idea of steam powered sentinels and Russ. Keep up the good work!

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas
Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "
Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms. |

Deranged idea: why not use Defilers as counts-as LRBT's? Clockwork spider tanks anybody? (it's all gone very wild wild west!) Lose the head, replace arms with sponsons, file down the chaos symbols...

excellent idea! I may just make one of those, although I'll use regular russes too, for added variety, and I had some ideas for them.
Thse spider tank could be an experimental new machine for the army .
oh, and next week I can finally order all the cogs, gears and miscelanious bits for the army as well as my model I plan on using as a techpriest. the army's going to move rather slowly for a little while but when i can get all the parts delivered it should start taking shape rather quickly. until then, here's what i've got.
I need more money...

One word of warning about the PP plastics: plastic is always easier to work with than metal, but you'll still need to pin and superglue theirs. It doesn't seem compatible with GW plastics and plastic glue. Still much lighter and easier to work with.

So, I was going to post an update with lots of pictures, and I really want to update right now because it's a pretty big update.
I bought a battleforce and command squad, and made a command squad out of spare guardsmen. so now I have the minimum troops and hq. I also have the sentinal, which I will eventually magnetise so it can use any weapon or be an armoured/scout sentinal, and it has clockwork and large cogs where the engine should be. I also managed to paint up 6 guardsmen to test the color scheme, which is brassy armour, white shirt, brown pinstripe pants, and wooden weapons with brass details.
The reason I didn't take any pictures is because my camera refuses to work, there are no more batteries for it here at all, so I need to go out and buy some, and I won't get a chance to for a few days ...
Oh well, in a few weeks I'll be picking up TANKS!!!
And I promise to put up pictures as soon as possible.

That's right boys and girls, it's time for another update!
(by the way, I apologise for the quality of the pictures)
first up, a group shot
next, the tesla (plasma) sentinel
comapny command (i've since fixed the weapons so they don't look bent anymore)
the paintjob looks far better in person
same with these, i'm afraid my photography doesn't do the models justice.
Comments? criticism? it's all welcome

Wow, these are fantastic! I'm a huge fan of steampunk and I would certainly recommend as others have done, the Warmachine stuff.
Also, if you haven't already, for cogs and such, try going down to a cobbler or watch repair place and asking if they have any broken watches or cogs or pieces you can have. It's a really good source of free clockwork!
