a Toxic world

I have a planet that im making for my new chapter.

But, what i need help on is how am i going to make it.

I need a story behind the planet,
I need a reason why it would have become toxic,
And i also need a name,

Well for one this is the wrong place to ask for story building. Try 40k background.

But because I'm better then the Forum police i'll give abit of help.

I know this is abit bias but why not have your world killed from a super virus? or perhaps a Tyranid invasion??

I was just watching the hill's have eyes so I was tempted to throw in Mutants and etc.

sorry cant help you. but id go for shadowbrand's idea of calling it Hades (maybe Hades VI?)

Maybe you could say your people had to release a virus bomb to destroy a Tyranid invasion from spreading any further? I don't know. Fluff isn't my thing unless it is mine.

If you want a cool, "real worldy" sounding name, I can suggest looking here at a list of harmful substances, and picking one you like the sound of/properties of to name your planet after.

For example, "Coumaphos" is an insecticide, but also sounds kind of planet-like (I am not suggesting you pick this name, just showing how it is done).

Regards the rest of the background, I am afraid that you really need to think what really interests you.

Perhaps there was a nurgle attack on the chapter's planet many thousands of years ago during the HH or one of the black crusades (this latter one is probably a better time period) and it has been a toxic waste now (would perhaps give your chapter a driving desire to hunt down Nurgle cults and followers).

This background appeals to me, as I play Nurgle inspired CSM.

Being MrToxichazxard I reckon this is right up my street, incase youve not already got ideas.

If its going to be inhabited primarly by the forces of good (SM,eldar, tau etc) then I would go with the fluff of exterminatus of somekind. An immovable threat against the imperium with only one possible course of action. Release a toxic-gas/nerve agent into the atmosphere to kill off all life on the planet. A heavy cost of the life on the planet but a step forward in the name of the emperor.

Forces of evil instantly says to me a nurgle infested planet. Possibly a tangent homeworld to the deathguard. Corrupted to the core by the vile powers of nurgle to the point where the planet creates its own atmosphere of toxic fumes and gases. Harmless to its inhabitants who grew and mutated to live with it but deadly to new comers.

Names . . . im bad with names but a few I can think of
Noxia (Noxia Prime if its the first discovered of a few planets like it)
Toxicon

My mind . . . she is blank.

umm i was accually making for the space marines so if you could bass it off of that if anything.
but its accually unhabitable to anything but this special team of space marines because they have a thick armour that cant get penatrated by the planets toxins,
and the only reason they can live on it is because of there multi lung alowing them to enclose there real lungs and alowing tem to breath toxins and even water so it kinda all links together

Nids make a lot of sense...but is a tad boring

Could be a Grey Knight Exterminatus of a daemon infested planet...the remains of which (Nurgle daemons) then festered for a thousand years into a noxious planet. Perhaps the terrain is even slightly daemonic and sentient

Salamanders make sense here...maybe even another founding of salamanders...they love fire...must be able to handle smoke and maybe even volcanic poisons and ash...
