No wonder all manner of hostile Xenos think the Imperial Guard are a pushover...

Seriously though, does anyone actually miss the days of baggy pants and bug eye goggles?

Wonder how Imperial fashions will change over the next two decades...

Really, old school Imperial Guard or Cadian Imperial Guard. I would have to go old school.

Yep. Old school it is. These were before Cadians and those repulsive roid-monkeys we call Catachans.

In fact, they weren't even called Imperial Guard. Back then they were the Imperial Army

Weren't these supposed to represent the Necromundan Regiments?

I like the concept, especially the helmet, and the "Ze googles, zey do nothing!" goggles. Shoulderpads are cool too.

I think they could use a slight redesign. I'd prefer them over the greatcoat regiments everyone wants.

Alot of times they used the Nerco Regiments as examples but it was the standard for the Imperial Army/Guard. Also the armor had more of a flak armor feel to it with officers having breastplates to represent caprace armor.

I wonder why their pants look like they came from zebras/tiggers. You'd think those type of animals would be long dead in this galaxy...

You would think tiger strip uniforms were dead in the current times too but look at the US Air Force Digis. So they will be around for ever.

They might have had baggy pants and bug eye goggles, but they also had beastmen platoons and living bombs.
No reason for xenos to think of the Imperial Army as pushovers (aside from propaganda, of course).

If they're the Imperial Army then they're pre- or during- Heresy Era. Back then the Army was much more highly respected. Regiments like the Geno Chilliad were in existence. They weren't as modified as Astartes, of course, but they were genetically bred and altered to be tougher, bigger, braver and smarter than standard humans.

And until the very end of the Heresy, Land Raiders were in common service with all branches of the Imperium's forces, from the Army to the Arbites.

But as Horus' Traitor Legions moved towards Terra, they were all recalled and pressed into service with the Astartes Chapters, because it became clear that the final fight would be Marine v Marine - and the loyalists needed every tool at their desposal...

I still have a box of them floating around the basement. Some of them might even still be on the sprue. Frankly, I like the look better than the current Catachan infantry (but the command and heavy weapon teams). It morphed into the Cadian look.

Although, the first pic, the guy looks constipated, not angry.

And, the regiment pictured was the Necromunda Spiders.

Not really. The name change to "Guard" just didn't come around until someone thought up the "Navy-Army Split" fluff.

And Land Raiders weren't all they had. The Guard also got Land Speeders and Rhinos

I saw that too. Personally I hope it recognized a calcium deficiency in it's enemies and wasgiving them milk to drink and fortify their bones before it stepped on them so the bones would make a better crunching noise.
