Subject: What Game to Buy.
|
 |
Wolf Guard Bodyguard in Terminator Armor
|
I am looking to buy a new game, I used to be a hardcore gamer, but I havn't gotten a new game since MGS4 came out, and I havn't played any games since then
The past year all of my free time has been spent either building my car (Turbo LS/Vtec Honda CRX) or working on my teams adepticon army (I had to build and paint all 4k points, along with a displayboard). I just finished with the Adepticon army yesterday and I finally finished building my car about 2 weeks ago, so all of a sudden I have ample free time and I want to get a new video game.
Im limited in finances, and I want a game that I can waste lots of time on to make sure I get the best value for my entertainment. I spent over 500 hours in metal gear online, and about 120 hours replaying the single player game. I understand that single player games wont give me as many hours of enjoyment, and I have no qualms with getting into an online game, I just hate the social requirement presented by MMOs and other such games, online games that I can pick up and play around in are fine.
I enjoy all types of games except sports games.
my PC is an ancient POS, so no computer games.
I have a PS3, and these were the titles I was looking at possibly getting
I am limiting myself to 1 game just to soak up time while I save up cash to get a new limited slip differential for my car.
Final Fantasy XIII, I was a huge fan of FFVII, IX, and X. However I've heard a few complaints about the game and I think there might be a better buy out there.
Fallout 3 GOTYE: I played the normal fallout 3 for a few hours at a friends house before, and I do really like the game. I think this would be a good investment, however I've heard that with all the expansions its incredibly buggy and at times nearly unplayable.
Killzone 2: I played the demo and loved it, I heard the online multiplayer was really good too.
Demon Souls: Got great reviews from everyone, I havn't tried it out but the online aspect of it seems really interesting. I also love super-difficult games that challenge me. I dont know how good the replayability is though.
Grand Theft Auto IV: Years ago played GTA3 a lot, havn't played GTA4 at all yet, but there may be a sequel coming up soon, so I'm not sure if it would be a wise purchase.
God of War 3: I can wait a few days and get GOW3, I didnt play 1 or 2, but I played the PSP version, and I played the demo and enjoyed it a good bit. Lots of hype but I dont think it really qualifies as the time-wasting type of game that I'd like to get.
Whats dakka opinion?

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

I have FFXIII and I have almost no problems with the game at all. Great story and graphics. I suppose if there is one thing I could complain about is the fact that most battles tend to be just hitting the auto-battle command over and over, but with the paradigms (classes) it still makes the battle quite engaging.
Fallout 3 was good, but like you said, a little buggy at times and I've had it freeze up on me on my PS3 as well before.
GTA4 - Just don't worry about it. Don't consider it. I'm not saying it is a bad game, but for what you are looking for there are definitely better options.
God of war 3 - its not out yet, so no real opinions on it yet. It will probably be as good if not better than the previous titles, but it probably won't keep you playing months from now.
No comment on the rest as I haven't played them. If you are into shooters at all you may want to consider Modern Warfare 2 as well. The single player is...somewhat short, but the multiplayer keeps me hooked and I keep coming back to get more unlocks and guns. That and team fortress 2 are my top two online games at the moment.

Metro 2033 is promising to be interesting. Gamestop, naturally, fethed up my preorder(the one time in almost four years I've preordered with them...now I remember why I usually boycott them). So swapped it to an Amazon order. Got it with overnight shipping for the same price as if I were to buy it at any of the normal stores(without having to dick around with hunting it down).
Will give better review tommorow. But if you enjoyed STALKER or FEAR it looks promising.

Im going to have to agree with you on GTA4, and GOW3 probly doesnt have the replayability I'm looking for. they are more action games and I need either an online shooter or a role playing game.
so we've narrowed it down to these 4
Final Fantasy XIII
Demon Souls
Fallout 3 GOTYE
Killzone 2
FFXIII has the lowest scores in reviews of the 4, but it IS the newest game with argueably the best graphics. No multiplayer/online/DLC aspect hurts a lot. A questionable amount of content it means I dont know if this game is worth it in the cost vs time played.
FO3 has the highest scores in reviews, but its the oldest game and has the worst graphics. The game engine feels dated, and its also kinda buggy. No online multiplayer hurts, but lots of content means it is worth the cost vs time played.
KZ2 ties with demon souls in review scores, falling between FFXIII and FO3, it argueably has the best graphics against FFXIII. Online multiplayer is the biggest bonus to this game, I can easily dump 3-500 hours into an online shooter if the player base is large enough... Anyone here play KZ2 online who can tell me how popular the online player base is?
DS is the wildcard game, with review scores tied with KZ2, its a pseudo singleplayer multiplayer game so I dont know how much content there is or how replayable it is.
TL;DR
Does anyone know how many people play KZ2 online
or how many hours of gameplay is in Demon Souls? Automatically Appended Next Post: Im not really interested in CODMW2, I dont know why, it just doesnt appeal to me. Automatically Appended Next Post: I wasn't a big fan of the Stalker or fear games, I played them a bit but wasn't too impressed, it just seemed like they took every hollywood "horror" flick cliche and dumped them into subpar shooter games.
Metro 2033 looks cool, but I dont own a 360, or plan on spending any money to get one.

If i were you, wich ofc i'm not, i would go for Demon souls's. I've been drooling over that game for quite a while, but it's hard to come by here in Belgium.
I have FF XIII and allthough it's a great game storywiise and gameplaywise it has no replay value, once you've played it you know the story and that's that (god i miss the challenge of FF X)
Demon's souls may be a wild card, but it promises to be a hardcore RPG adventure game with loads of replay value due to the different possible classes.
I'm so going to try and import it...
Anyway, good luck, and whatever you choose, have fun. Game on!! Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yeah, i forgot, i have killzone 2 and FO3 aswell. Both are great games, however...
KZ2 is a FPS so depth and play time are ofc limited, you still have multiplayer ofc. But for me it doesn't have the same degree of satisfaction playing the same maps over and over again compared to an RPG
FO3 is great if you can live with the bugs, not much bad i can say about it.

FALLOUT 3!!!
GOTYE has all 5 expansion packs included, so averaged out its like youre getting everything half price ($25 original, $5 each DLC) Now I play it on the computer, I missed most of the horrible patches, I bought the original, and left it alone until I bought GOTYE. But my GOTYE is fine, so is my dads PS3 copy.
Also Demons souls: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/1321-Demons-Souls

If you want what you've already had go with everything else, if you want a pleasant, but challenging, surprise go with Demons Souls.

I realise that it isn't on your list, but Burnout Paradise with all of the DLC is 30 bucks. That is a game that will suck the hell out of your time.
GTA IV is a must play as well.

In a Society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behaviour is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by "thou shalt not", the individual can practise a certain amount of eccentricity: when they are supposedly governed by "love" or "reason", he is under continuous pressure to make him behave and think in exactly the same way as everyone else.
