Does anyone actually use scourges? I'm interested in knowing what their use is.  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

Besides of course, a few deep striking dark lances?

I use scourges, Man i love my scourges.

I have 10 of them, 4 with magnetised arms so i can switch them from cannon to lances.

Personly, I find them to be a good use, they can deep strike near tanks and juut rip apart back armour with lances, With cannons just jump down near a squad of snipers or whatnot and just rend their souls with to many dice to count.

They are also good at IC hunting.

Really the ONLY flaw i find with them is that fact that their heavy weapons are overpriced.

Over-all my favourate unit.

I guess this would go into the Tactics forum and not Background, ideally.

But as for Deep Striking Scourges, I was under the impression that you count as having moved if you Deep Strike, and therefore can't fire heavy weapons on that turn? I could be wrong, though...

I think you're right. Yeah sorry about that, posted it in the wrong place. I've thought about converting my own up because the models suck.
I've managed to fit incubi in for their price, as i can take enough splinter cannons and dark lances with my warrior teams, and with troops being more valuable, i figured that a unit with good gear, is effectively a better chance of victory, I use the incubi to smash anything out of the way so that my troops can take the objectives. I was wondering if they scourges would do the same job?

I can't say that I've ever played as or against Dark Eldar (You fellows are a rare breed these days!), but I do own a copy of the Codex, and just by looking at the profiles and what you've said, I'd imagine that you'd be better off sticking with your Incubi. If you're already satisfied with the amount of heavy weapons you can take in your Warrior squads, I really wouldn't bother with Scourges, especially if you plan on converting them. It sounds like the Incubi(from what little I know of your army list) would help fill in some close-combat support, as well as providing a nice little meat shield for whatever HQ you've got in the wings.

Besides... Scourge might be highly mobile, but this is really counteracted by the fact that they have Heavy Weapons... I mean, sure, they can jump twelve inches, but if they do that they're not going to be shooting, and don't you want to be pumping out shots every turn? Plus, they're pretty damn fragile, so the odds are if you're close enough to the enemy that you need to use that mobility, you're probably going to die fairly soon. Eh, if I were you I'd forget about them.

But... Take all this with a grain of salt. This is just me attempting to think logically about an army I've never played.

The two major flaws of scourges are that if they take DL, they can't move. Given that their niche is to DS in (which means no shooting that round) and then nip about quickly on jump packs, this is a bit, well, silly. Main use then is repositioning if whatever you're shooting at runs away or gets too close. Now, jump pack + splinter cannon can be good fun against lower toughness armies. I might be biased though because my DL don't tend to hit things, let alone kill them. *mutters*

The most serious flaw of scourges though is filling the Heavy Support slot. They aren't costed low enough to be viable most of the time when competing against talos and ravangers. Especially when the latter tends to pull off the same DL duty with a bit more flexibility.

Oh, and the scourge wings suck, I'm trying to find some better ones. Might see if I can tech up the new gargoyle ones a bit...

Yeah true, dark lances are awesome, but I can't see the point in scourges now, after hitting the codex again they really aren't worth the points.
I think i'll settle for some more incubi. I have got a rather monstrous dracon to harass with, he's on a jet bike and can really piss off and divide an army.

Do recall that you can't have a retinue if he's on a jetbike, although joining a squad of reavers is not only allowed but encouraged. Incubi are stuck on foot. Or more commonly on a raider.

Scourges are terrible. DE don't need deep striking tank killers, in a 1500 pt list you should have at least 15 lances that can fire from turn 1 on. By the time they come in from reserve there will be nothing worth targeting with 4 dark lances.

Also most importantly they take a slot that should be used for a 3 x Dis Ravager.
